You mean we shouldn’t clone that thing using a Tibetan mastiff?

Clever. But, if a wealthy Asian can clone their Pomeranian, I have no problem with cloning this wolf. Or a Mammoth.

Unlikely to have been the trophy of ancient hunter as predated early man there
I respectfully disagree.

I mean, it could have been torn apart by another animal, but I wouldn't rule out humans.

I also wouldn't rule out shifting ice as the reason for the decapitation. It was certainly frozen right after the wolf died, which could have resulted from a cataclysm. The rest of the body may be somewhere else, not necessarily very nearby.

For real though.

What if it was a werewolf and was in the process of shifting form, when it was beheaded and its heart cut out..

OR the dating of early man in that area was off because the scientists haven't looked at enough sites, etc.

If the wolf wasn't the apex predator, what was? and why aren't there gnawing marks where the neck separated?

Because before the age of man, gods and demons walked the earth. This realm existed before man first drew breath, and those that were not bound to the laws of mortality claimed it. There were monsters in the darkness.

There still are
