I’m not only cautioning myself, but the flashers alert everyone else on the road they should take caution and slow down.

So to recap, you are willing to compromise on your ability to tell other drivers that you are braking or changing lanes in order to tell them that it is raining.

Do you realize how fricking stupid that sounds?

If you can barely see 50 yards in front of your car, your lights should be on, automatically turning on the low level brake lights used at night for visibility.

Flashing hazards indicate a stopped or disabled vehicle that someone needs to slow down and avoid. Having them on while driving blurs the meaning of having them on.

I don’t use hazards in the rain.

But when I see it on other vehicles it doesn’t make me as butthurt as most people on the OT.

Last summer I was driving to the beach with my fiance and it started pissing rain. She reached over and turned the flashers on. I back hand pimp slapped her and turned them off and set her straight.

Hell. I just wish Louisiana drivers would actually turn on their headlights in fog and driving rain.

I swear some people have the mentality..."Well I can see, what do I need my headlights on for?"

I think in some circumstances the hazards can help. I used my hazards in the rain just once. Driving to NOLA over Bonnet Carre when a monsoon came up. No where to pull over. I could barely see the car in front of me and we had all slowed to about 20 mph. When the car in front put their hazard lights on I could see them much better. So I put mine on for the benefit of the truck behind me. I turned them off as soon as the rain let up.

If you have to use hazard lights to feel safe you need to pull off the road and wait for conditions to improve

Hazard lights should only be used if a vehicle is disabled in the roadway or on the shoulder. There is no need to use your flashers while driving in the rain. It is actually against #Louisiana law.

Hazards can make it difficult for others to see turn signals or brake lights, or cause them to think you are stopped in the road. Also, a car that is stalled w/ hazards on may get hit by a driver who doesn’t anticipate proper braking distance because they think the car is moving.

If it’s raining so hard you need your hazards you need to get off of the damn road.

Ironically, wouldn't that constitute an emergency to that driver and justify the hazards?

The absurdity of the overuse of the hazards are because people are too lazy to take their lights off of Auto and actually turn them on. These are probably the same people that turn on their high beams to drive around at night.

Hazards are for stopped cars.

The next thing you know you hazard people are going to be driving down the road tossing road flares out the window.

Hazards are not designed to be on while a vehicle is moving and they are not designed to convert your vehicle into an ambulance.

This. Also when using the car in front of you to aid in your visibility hazards on while driving could lead to someone driving into a stopped car.

The only purpose of hazard lights is to warn others that your car is inoperable.

Driving with hazard lights on thus causes confusion. It can cause people to change lanes / slam on the brakes which can lead to other problems. Some hazard lights when being used will override turn signals or brake lights. It confuses everyone around you.

I'm really surprised Texas DPS said that. However, considering how most Texans drive, I'm not surprised.

And for the record, I also hate when people use hazard lights while part of a procession, or while towing something.

If you feel the need to use hazard lights while driving, you shouldn't be driving.

Blame automatic on headlights. My wife's (no pics) car has them, she keeps it on auto 100 percent of the time. The sensor is the complete opposite of sensitive, it's got to be almost dark as night to get them to come on while raining.

People that use the automatic think, well if I need them, it will come on. But they don't work well with rain.

And I'm not sure if it's "law" or not, but the whole "wipers on, lights on" thing exists for a reason.

I dont have an issue with this, but when did we convert to hazards on versus having your lights on?
