I wish all of the people melting over statue removal would man up and be honest. That they want these statues up because it reminds them of a time when blacks were treated like second class to whites.

Baw you're the one who failed to catch a clearly sarcastic OJ reference when you made that response.

Yea what month were they removed. How do the following months compare to trends for the last 10 years. How do murder rates compare in cold and hot months. Stats only mean something if you dig deep

Murder rate was skyrocketing the previous months and years leading up to the removal.

The 2016 highest month for murder was only 1 murder greater in 2017 than the lowest month for 2016

July 2016 - 28
July 2017 - 8
Jan 2016 (fewest) - 7
Jan 2017 - 22

Enlighten me, mon frere.

What is the reasoning behind tearing down statues?

What criteria must a statue meet to be deemed unfit and in need of being torn down?

Please give exact examples.

I.e.

Any and all statues of people who owned slaves/accepted slavery as okay/did not fight against slavery

Any statue of people whom commited atrocities against any other group of people based on their culture/religion/status/ethnicity/country of origin

Any statue commemorating segregation based on race/sexuality/identity

The White House, Monticello, The Hermitage, Harvard University etc ect were all built partially with slave labor, housed slaves and housed treasonous, slave Owning Leaders.

They should be torn down to erase their horrible and evil histories, right? I mean, after all, having ones home preserved as a museum for posterity is a much bigger honor than a simple statue, right?

You do understand the difference that you can't escape the history of slavery or slave labor, but that doesn't mean celebrate it.

Confederate statues are celebrations because they depict leaders in battle uniform of the confederate army.

I'll wait......

And this is why the people saying the statues should remain are actually accomplishing something.

We all know these are the things they will come after next. This isn't about fear or racism. It's about retribution and a feeling of payback, no matter if it has zero affect on living persons now, no matter how moronic and useless the notion is.

If the depiction is a celebration of owning slaves, yes.

So statues of men who glorify slavery are okay as long as the statue itself doesn't explicitly celebrate owning slaves?

Why would you be OK with a statue celebrating a racist slave owner just because it doesn't show him using a slave as a foot rest?

If it is celebrating the segregation, yes.

Oh... And for what it's worth, I'm currently sitting in my family plantation homes library. I ate dinner at the table that Jefferson Davis ate at. And will be sleeping in the room that he slept in often.

How does that make you feel?

Again, not nearly the honor of having an entire slave estate built by slaves(where many were beaten and raped)preserved for history.

At least admit you think they should be torn down so you can be consistent in your argument and we can move on.

What would be the reasoning behind erecting any of those statues if it weren't a direct representation of the events?

You tell me. Why do we have mount Rushmore? I mean frick. We have a massive head carved in a mountain of a slave owner. What other reason to carve his head in a mountain other than to promote slavery?

Right next to him you have a devout racist who stated that negros are not equal to white men. What other reason to carve a man's head into a mountain than to immortalize his views that the white man is and forever will be better than the negro?

Your melting so hard that your sarcasm has made it impossible to reply.

You have now established that, in your belief, the reason Mt Rushmore exists is to celebrate racism and slavery.

With your type of logic there is no doubt why statue supporters are getting their arse handed to them in these efforts.

Well I actually saw the statue opposers in my city and that about sums them up. Not that it was for a worthy cause, but at least they took a break from popping pills and collecting welfare checks to actually do something beyond making whiny threads on a message board.

Not that they accomplished anything other than to push those apathetic about the situation away from them.

Ain't my statues. Y'all keep worrying about inanimate objects, meanwhile your city will continue being one of the most crime filled cesspools in the U.S.

Maybe the proud citizens can teardown the governor's mansion next.

"Damn racist house!"

This is really the sad part. I think NOLA could have saved PGT if they wouldn't have insisted on lumping him in with Lee and Jeff Davis.

Instead the statue defenders went for an all or none approach and got none.
