Have you ever toured a home for sale that was out your range, but needed an ego boost?

How would looking at something so nice that you can’t afford it give someone an ego boost? Wouldn’t it have the opposite effect?

When I bought my house I made sure to check 500k cheaper and 500k more expensive than my immediate budget to see if it made a difference for me. If 500k more was worth it, I was going to delay for a bigger down payment.

I didn't do it because I needed an ego boost but because I was aggravated with my realtor for trying to show me homes outside of what budget I told him and knew it'd waste his time.

It’s definitely not an ego boost, but we’ve gone to open houses for homes that were higher than our range just to see what the difference is.
I’ve never test driven anything that I wasn’t potentially going to buy. Car salesmen are way more annoying/intrusive than a normal real estate agent at an open house. Curiosity isn’t worth interacting with a car salesman.
