Yes, I have and it’s pretty scary.
The company I worked for sponsored the balloon festival festival at Pennington one year. I was selected to ride in a balloon as part of our sponsorship.
We launched with several other balloons and the wind started taking us towards the river immediately. We came within 10 feet of hitting a tree but he was able to fire the burner and get us above it. The wind really concerned our pilot and he was immediately looking to land. We tried to land in the field on Burbank where those sand volleyball courts are now but we couldn’t get down in time.
He fired the burner again to gain altitude but then the concern was the River. The pilot was not going to allow us to cross over the river and lose our ground crew that was following us. He was very stressed about this and it kind of freaked us out. He said we had to land no matter what before that so we quickly dropped altitude to about 150 feet. There is a neighborhood there and we landed very hard in the middle of a street where there was a crowd of people watching. We immediately jumped out the balloon to secure it by ropes but it bounced and a few times and scooted down the street before we could secure it. The crowd watching us did absolutely nothing to assist.
We got it secured and deflated safely but I’d say the event was more stressful than fun. I don’t think I’d do it again.

Photos from those ballon fest by Pennington. I see if I can find them as they are about 35 years old

Yep, sounds like she was banging the hot air balloon operator

My two kids and I went for a ride in one a few years ago for fathers day.
It was a pretty cool experience, very peaceful. Since you are floating with the wind it's amazing how quiet it is.

Yes, that felt kinda odd. You’re going nearly the same speed as the wind so you see the leaves blowing g but the air around you seems perfectly still.

Watched a few launches I. Great weather, considered it, but No and wouldn’t do it in the future.

we took a 2 hour ride in Huntsville it was amazing, something I’ll never forget. The best part was the pilot telling us “it’s time to start looking for a place to land” LOL. I had no idea they just plunk down in random open spots…we wound up in some dudes back pasture and they came out to help us pack up

Crazy way to go... hoping that you slam into the ground and die before the fire gets you

The injured had to be on the ground. It’s impossible to survive that.

Once before and that’s enough. I’m a tall guy and the blow torch felt like it was burning the top of my head.
It looks cool from far away but the size of the fire required to keep that thing floating is wild. And, landing is just a semi controlled crash.
I will never ride one again.

This angle is even worse.
I forgot how crammed into those things you are. 20 is in that is nuts.

Damn. The fact the person taping clearly has friends/family on that balloon and hearing her is heartbreaking.

I proposed to Mrs. Gar in a hot air balloon over the new bridge. She loved it, I was scared shitless (about the balloon, not Mrs. Gar). I won’t be doing that again (either proposing or hot air ballooning).

We took one in Scottsdale a few years ago and it was fantastic. Never really did feel like we were air born. The basket was stable and the view incredible.

Not a chance. A guy I knew from high school died in a terrible accident with his wife, and something like 16 people total, when they collided with power lines. Just terrible.

I have been in a hot air balloon. Yes.
It was an unpleasant experience. Supposed to be a private affair, but magically another family showed up at the meet up spot. I was trying to be nice about it (nothing I can do but negotiate a discount later), asked the other family where they are from. One of their teenage sons was OVERTLY gay, btw. They responded "Oklahoma". I proceeded with the infamous movie quote "Only two things come from Oklahoma, steers and queers. And I don't see any horns" before my brain could stop my mouth.
Then I had to ride for three hours in a tiny basket with the family in the aftermath of my tourettes episode.
Side note: I burnt my scalp on that metal plate that is supposed to protect you from the flame. It was a very uncomfortable experience all around.
