"Brain damage from car exhaust"? "no brain damage from getting your head run over by the rear wheel"! Cheech & Chong album in the 70s.

When I was younger I ran over one.

Some dogs always chase cars and trailers.

Yes but it did not croak. The neighbors across the street had some kind of Jack Russell terrier mix. It used to run across the street and bite my 5 year old when he was in our front yard. He would pinch bite and not break the skin. They did nothing when I told them it harassed my kid whenever they let it out the front door. The6 had a fenced 8n back yard but let it go out front to dump.
It was on the main drive outside of our neighborhood one day and a small dog ran out in front of me. I looked in the rear view mirror as I drove and saw it sprawled out on the road. I did not know it was the terror of the neighborhood. I made the block and went back to pick it up and look at the collar/name tag to identify the owners. It was gone.
Three days later I see the neighbor’s dog wearing a cast on one leg and it can’t run across the street to bite my kid.
I never admitted that it may have been me that ran over the dog.

If you're incapable of avoiding hitting a dog, you probably shouldn't be driving.

Terrible experience. I ran over one of my student’s dog on the way to school one morning as the student was standing near the road waiting for her bus. Nothing I could do, deep ditch on right side of the road, oncoming car in left lane, and another car following closely that prevented me from slamming on the brakes.

When she came to my class that day, I took her out in the hall and apologized profusely. It didn’t really matter, but I couldn’t just let it go without saying something to her.

While backing a trailer of hay, I ran over the head of one of my parent’s German Shepherds. Luckily this happened on a thick pile of sand leftover from an old round pen. Her head was bleeding badly and she was out cold; I thought I had killed her, but she only had a broken tooth and cuts on the inside of her mouth.

A long long time ago, I was a freshman in college, wife (then girlfriend) was a senior in high school. She left her volleyball gear or some shite at my house, asked if I could bring it over that morning before work for me, school for her.

I loaded up and drove over. In her neighborhood, I'm about 50 feet from her house. Black cat runs out, squish, squish. Hit it with the front and back tires.

Kids are out front waiting for the bus, and I just ran over their cat. I wasn't speeding, maybe going 10-15 mph. Oh wait, it was also Friday 13th.

That's right, I ran over a black cat, on Friday the 13th, in front of its owners children.

I've never felt more horrible.

Why is grammar so bad on this site?

Well it's better than "have you ever ran a dog over" like the way some people would ask.

I have ran over two in about 65 years of driving.
One was a German Shepard that was chasing his owner's truck. If he had staid behind the truck, he would have been safe. Unfortunately he tried to pass the truck and got into my lane.
The other was a Boston Terrier. He would come and chase me. I would lose sight once he got close to my car. This happened several times and I grew tired of stopping. I slowed down and then I heard a crunch.

2 times a former club coach of mine died swerving to miss a dog. He was an on duty cop responding to call, in the rain... happened like 10 days before his wedding. Lost control and found a tree. At 18 I made a deliberate choice to never swerve for an animal that isn't likely to severely injure me because of that. I'll brake as hard and safely as possible, but that's all I got.

Similar incident. My Wife's girl friend swerved to miss a dog and totaled her car. I made a mental note, never swerve to miss a small animal.
There was a teenager whose parents bought him a Four Wheeler. He would drive pass my house often, and I have Beagles running loose. I stopped him one day and warned him.
I told him, I don't want you to run over my beagles, however, if one is crossing the road, I would rather you hit the beagle rather than trying to avoid him and wreck. I can replace the beagle, we can't replace you.

You dumb arse. Beagles are bred to run rabbits, not sit on the couch and consume dog food.
I live on a loop road, about three cars a day pass my house. I've lived here 25+ years and have never lost a dog to a car collision. I've owned beagles for about fifty five years and have lost one to an automobile. That one followed my wife home from the forest and she didn't know it was loose.
I keep my dogs in a pen. They are valuable, not like the shite eaters that you feed.

That'll surely bring back the black dog I could not see on an unlit portion of Hwy 90 until a half-second before impact.
