This seems very rare. Cars break a lot but the brakes never seem to fail while in motion

Lost the brakes on one of our fully loaded rice trucks when I was a young man. Since it was an old Dodge and very slow I was able to just downshift and coast it to a stop.

Yes. One of my old work trucks.

I was leaving a restaurant for lunch and tap the breaks and just heard a pop. Foot when all the way to floor.

Luckily a shop was only about a mile down the road, so I just slowly made my way to the shop. If I stood on the breaks hard enough, they still had just enough to get me to at least slow a little.

But rolling into the shop I was so nervous I was about to roll right through their building. The curb helped stop me as well.

When I picked up my daughter from school a few months ago I heard brakes squeaking loudly on - what I assumed - was the old van of one of the less wealthy kids at my daughter's school. I felt really bad for them.

I then drove twenty minutes to a McDonalds and when I lowered the window to order I heard the same brakes squeaking loudly again. My first dumb thought was that I can't believe they followed me all the way to McDonald's.

Turns out I was the poor SOB who needed new brakes.

no, but I've lost a trailer. We were baling hay at the farm I worked at. My boss had the truck and trailer hooked up and waiting for me when I got there. Had 7 round bales on a 4 wheel military flatbed trailer when the pin came loose. I felt the truck get light and looked back to see all the bales going flying after a ditch stopped it. Could have been bad but it only hurt some fencing.

Yeah, on a grain truck on a levee. Luckily, I had plenty of runway and another turn I could use about a mile further down the levee so I was able to coast to it and loop back around on the next turn row to get to our headquarters. Just took it slow back to the headquarters and it was very much a non event.

I was an inexperienced youth, too. Not sure what my dad was thinking putting me in that rickety piece of shite looking back on it. I guess he knew that there was miles of potential run off, so as long as I didn't hang a left or right off the side of the levee, I'd be fine.

I had an employee whose brakes went out in an old F100 pickup. For some reason he wasn't wearing shoes. He jumped out of the truck and tried to slow it down by pulling on the driver's side door. Cops took him to the looney hospital.

My interview skills aren't the best.

Yes, working for a BR news station at the time in a nearly brand new 2011 Dodge Ram that was one of our fleet trucks. Dealer did a buy back on it.

We coasted to a stop on the side of I10 and got not one but two flats doing so.

Almost.

I could feel my brakes were struggling and immediately took it to the shop. The very last stop I made in the parking lot at the shop the brake lines busted and brake fluid went everywhere. It was literally the last stop she had in her.

Yes the day I got my drivers license. I was driving my parents 82 Tercel, pressed the brake and it went all the way to floor with no pressure, thankfully it was a 4 speed manual so I could down shift to slow down.

I had a caliper just fall to pieces as i was breaking once. it was absolutely scary. you'd think the other three breaks would stop you fine, but youd be wrong.

Yep. 2000 Jeep Wrangler.

Existing I-49 at 190 and they failed. I’d been bouncing down 49 from Shreveport so no telling when they actually went out. I slowly engaged the parking brake and stood on the pedal to get it to stop at the stop sign before I rolled across 190 thank God.

Called my roommate who he and his father were shade tree mechanics. Per his instructions I lifted the hood, located a suction line that had freed itself and pushed it back on the nipple on the firewall. Put a zip tie on it and it never happened again.

Scary when you go to use them and they’re gone. Instant panic.

Why didn't you just ease the e-brake on and off?

I boiled my brake fluid when I was driving the Dragon in April.

Thankfully, the air in the system didn't manifest until after I had pulled over and started back up to move my car out of the gas station bay at the Tail.

Could've been a lot worse. I immediately flushed it and swapped in DOT4 to prevent it from happening again.
