I just had one, a small one, hanging on my finger. Just reached and pulled it, thinking it would come right off, and it pulled like an inch down the side of my nail and finger.

Had a dorm room door slammed on my ring finger of my left hand my freshman year in college. Broke my finger in six places(one place latitudinally and five places longitudinally) and the entire fingernail exploded. To this day I have no idea where it went.

Got a bacterial infection in my index finger and my fingertip turned black and my fingernail fell off after a few days. Didn't have insurance and waited too long to see a doctor and almost lost my finger.
