Have you ever given thought to the possibility of us being in a simulation?

And that there is a set timeline for everything that happens in our life and no matter how much you think that you are in control your actions, those actions would have happened as marks on the timeline anyway?
For example, I am posting this thread and I made a decision to do so. Does that mean that it was always going to happen?
Blows my mind a little bit.

I get what you’re saying and I don’t have an answer. Do we have free will ? And beyond that is there even such thing as cause and effect? If what you’re saying is true, those sequences of events would have always happened in that exact same way so does cause/effect not actually exists? Or the idea of chance, if everything is set in stone there actually is no chance because it was always going to be one specific outcome.

I smoke lots of weed and think of this often. It's a possibility since we have done this via video games. If we can create simulations, we very well could be living in a simulation.
I also believe everything we do is for a reason. All the information we intake is for a reason. Very interesting subject to dig into when you're bored or high. Videos on YouTube; Tedtalks, conspiracies and information on the subject.

I think it's highly profound. But it is a basic philosophic idea* that you realize quickly how futile it is to spend too much time on.

I find it funny that there are those in the scientific community who will more readily accept the possibility that we are living in a computer simulation than the possibility that there might be a supreme divine being somewhere out there who created the universe.

When you look around and see how random and chaotic everything can be, it seems impossible that it could be a simulation. But then when you get down to the subatomic level, things start to look... computable. There are relatively few basic building blocks that interact in specific ways.
What if the speed of light is what it is because that is the maximum framerate of the hardware we're running on?

The scientific community will not really consider either possibility until a hypothesis is created that can be subsequently tested. Until that point, both of those proffers are strictly in the philosophical realm.

See... lol, this is JUST the sort of thing that should turn what should be a brief conversation into an unending one.
Btw, our understanding of science and the nature of the universe is in its absolute infancy still.
