And when you die you take off the VR headset and Jesus says “Finally! Okay I’m next! I wanna be one of those Instagram models.”

When I wake up tired, like this morning, I wonder if part of me was being used in an off-world mind-mine of some kind for most of the night.

Then they hit you with their red memory erase light before you wake up.

But was I always going to post this thread questioning the same thing that you’re questioning? It can be really mind boggling if you think about it for a little bit.

There are realities in which you did, did not, or posted porn.

Now we’re talking the multiverse theory which makes this thought even more interesting. If there are infinite universes which make up all of space, time, and matter, then that would mean that there is another universe in which an exact copy of you is doing exactly as you down to the second.

There's an interesting theory that posits that you exist in the universe in which you have not died yet. Countless times, you have met death, but realities split and your consciousness continues in the one where you are still kicking.

It is certainly a possibility, based on how our universe is constructed. Reality is a fluid idea, because it technically only exists in the consciousness of self aware beings. Are you real? You could be just a projection of my consciousness that I detect and observe, but I cannot prove you actually exist. As an individual, the only thing that I can prove as "real" is me. The only thing I am 100% certain about is that my consciousness exists. We seem to share experiences such as watching a sunrise together, but how do I know it is real or just a dream-like state of consciousness?

There is a theory that all matter only exists once it is observed, lending credence to this idea of nothing being "real" at all if you remove the ability to perceive it. This could be explained by us being in some sort of high level simulation program.

Or it could just be that the universe is here, we are in it, and don't really have an impact on it one way or another whether we perceive it or not. Human consciousness could just be a mistake of evolution that the brain was not ready for, and we are an abomination of nature that is destined to disrupt the system until we destroy either it or ourselves.

Or, for the most unlikely one: Some supreme being made us out of nothing and created the entire universe for us alone to be aware of and inhabit, while sitting back watching his/her/whateverthefrick's creations suffer kill and destroy themselves for.....reasons?

both of these can still be true, as it relates to God and biblical thought. We do have free will, we can do whatever we want, but at the same time it is already known what those choices will be.

This makes the most sense to me. We seem to be able to dictate our own actions, but if you think about it, they were bound to happen in the first place.

Philip K. Dick has interesting thoughts on this topic though.

Only in our imagination.
All of it.
