Went to the old Showtown many times in BR. Dothan still has a fully operational one today.

I used to go to the Capitol Drive-In in San Jose all the time as a teenager. Wednesday nights were free. Saw Jurassic Park, Dumb and Dumber, Terminator 2, and a whole lot of movies there. It's still operating. It had 8 screens at the time but I think it's down to 6 now. One of the last drive-in multiplexes in existence.
We still have a few out here in the PNW but I haven't gone because the lines are down the block and it's not dark enough for movies in the summer until 10pm.
I also saw Poltergeist there with my dad and his date when I was 4 or 5. I remember him making her get in the trunk so he didn't have to pay for her. She didn't stick around long and I was scared of the tree outside my window for years.

Well that’s interesting. When did you live in Bossier?
I lived there & Shreveport off and on and moved from the ArkLaTex in 1992.
And, yeah I have been to many drive in movies in a variety of places.

Yes! The Westgate drive in. It’s where I saw Star Wars for the first time. Then it became Indy Raceway go cart track

In the 70’s the drive-ins were where you could see lower tier films that in another time would be designated as straight to video or bottom barrel cable. Cheap sci-fi, soft core comedies, etc. They’d mix those up with “new” releases that had been in the theaters for a while.
Great memories of sitting on a tailgate drinking beers with a bunch of guys watching titty movies, dates for cheesy romance films, and sitting on the hood of my car watching Star Wars on a big dirty screen with the John Williams score crackling out of a tiny speaker.

Atlanta has one that is currently open. However it's not in the right area of the city. About mile and half from US Penitentiary and the hood.

Many times in the 60's. A friend worked at the drive-in in Timonium, MD where i grew up and would give me passes.

We have one in Memphis. I've taken the kids a few times.
They don't appreciate the nostalgia.

Yep. First one I ever saw was at The Yam Drive Inn, near Opelousas. 1973. The Legend of Boggy Creek.
When I was in Beta Club one year in high school in the mid 70's, our convention was in Ellick. I can't remember the name of the hotel where we stayed, but the convention was at the Rapides Parish Coliseum.
Anyway, not far behind our hotel was a drive in theatre. I remember being out on the balcony of our hotel room and watching the movie. It was some porno flick. Some guy was banging a chick from behind. We couldn't hear anything, but damn that looked like a raunchy flick.

True story. My mother and sister went to see Patton here at the local drive inn. They fall asleep half way thru. Woke up and the place was empty. In a rush they drive off. I go out to the car the next morning and find this weird looking speaker in the back seat with wires hanging out of it.

There’s a brand new four screener in birmingham and we go to Sand Mountain drive in all the time.
I prefer drive ins to theater because you don’t have to put up with people.

There were two in Metairie that my friends and I went to regularly with groups or took dates. The Do Drive In and The Westgate Drive In. Each of them had two screens and concessions in the middle.
Both faded into obscurity a long time ago. Sad really, it was a lot of fun.
