I went to one near Atlanta about 20 years ago. On Sunday nights, they showed old movies. They were showing Two Lane Blacktop the night I went.

Yes

If you don't get head (minimum) at a drive in, you're doing it all wrong

My buddy and I were talking about this recently. I can still remember the smell of the Pic mosquito coil. Mosquitoes were sometimes so bad we would have one burning on the front and back dash.

yep...used to go every couple of weeks when I was a teenager. Then entry fee was charged for the vehicle, so you could load up a pile of folks into the back of a truck and get in for almost nothing.

I haven't seen an operational drive-in in a couple of decades now. I would expect nowadays, security would be a problem in that setting. Also, I am not sure many folks would want to deal with the heat and mosquitoes of the south.

I wonder how many of us were conceived at a drive-in

Went to one in BR on Airline Hwy a few times in high school in the early 80’s. Once I loaded up some bean bag chairs in the back of my dads Chevy Luv truck and hit it up. They had a Dusk to Dawn horror marathon that I watched some of once. Hot in the summer but good times.

times were different back when they were popular, kids didnt think it was fun to go destroy business property and vandalize everything in sight "just because they were bored".

i think it would be very hard to make money doing it now days with the cost of replacing the equipt and stuff that gets vandalized. they were and still are great if they can keep people from vandalizing them

I was conceived on the floor at my grandparents' house

That speaks fricking volumes about me if I were ever to go to a therapist.

I'm 65, so yeah, I've been to many drive-in theaters in my time, but not in the last 30 or so years since they have all gone the way of the dinosaur around my area.

When I was a kid my dad would load up the car and we'd almost always go to the St. Bernard Drive-in on St. Bernard Hwy. right past Arabi. Nothing like being in the drive-in with the speakers in the windows, a PIC lit on the metal dashboard to try to keep the mosquitoes away and eating whatever we took from home for treats instead of using the concession stand since we grew up a bit on the poor side.

All that's long gone now and a truck stop/casino/café is in its place.

Went to the one in Lorman, Mississippi on numerous occasions back in the 80s.

ETA: Not there anymore. I think it closed down in the late 80s/early 90s. You used to be able to see the metal frame/supports for the screen from the highway (when it was 2 lanes), but pretty sure it's gone now.
