You can't be serious.
7 fricking years?

Dude, he could have leased that truck for the same payment over a 3 year period and not lose any more money than he will that that dumbass loan. 3 year lease, with say 5k down, roughly $32k for that time period. or do what he did...
say he bought the truck, for $60k. just on depreciation (average about 63% over a 5 year period) he will lose $38k in the time period of the loan and have two more years to pay it off. say it devalues and other $5-7k over those next two years. call it an even 43K now he has lost in this truck, not to mention the interest paid, so another what $3k? Lost $45K over this vehicle, and when he goes to sell it, he may lose more...

So much misinformation, so little time.
Car dealerships, and employees of them are like LSU fans or Bama fans or Florida fans, etc. the bad 2% give the rest a bad name.
The finance guy doesn't calculate the payment, the computer does based on the bank's formula.
84 months? You're buying too much car or your a fool or both. Don't blame the next dealer if you want to trade in the next six and a half years.
In 20 years in the business, (Hyundai to Mercedes Benz) I have never seen a $9k price move. There is not near that much markup.
The finance guy has access to many lenders and buys in bulk. You can frequently get the best rate with less work. (Not always, but more often that you expect)
Remember, most car dealers don't poison trees or teabag drunks. Most are just good people.

Going right to "It's OK, I financed at 6%" so early in the thread was definitely a rookie mistake.
Too many kids these days going for broke trying to get a 20 page plus thread instead of being satisfied with the fish they reeled in and taking a very respectable 5 pager.

When I was 20 and went to buy my first car by myself this a-hole 60 yr old salesman tried.
He insisted I test drive a jeep that was about $2000 over what I wanted to spend. Said hed talk his manager into bringing down the price. I filled out to see if I qualified for in-house financing just in case. Also he insisted that I go ahead and fill out some non-binding preliminary paperwork to streamline the process and so nobody else could swoop in and buy it before I had a chance just in case. All I ever said was that I would go home that night and think about it, review my finances to see if I could make it work.
After some thought I decided I didn't want it anyway.
He calls me the next day and says not only would the manager not budge in price, but now he wants double the down payment that salesman told me the day before. He should have known based on our talk the day before that I wasn't going to buy it at this point but this arse says "By the way, your loan application came back and you weren't accepted for in-house financing. So how are you going to pay for it? Do you want to get a loan from your bank? It'll probably be better if you just ask your parents to loan you the money." That last bit was disrespectful as hell because at no point did I indicate that my parents were going to help me pay for the car, because they weren't. That made me mad but I respectfully told him that I wasn't going to be able to make the deal.
Salesman got PISSED and starts yelling and cussing at me over the phone "Blah blah blah we had a verbal agreement you little shite! Your lazy arse generation doesn't know the meaning of commitment! You think you can just jerk me around! You signed legal paperwork and I could fricking call the police on you for breaking a contract! Just get the money from your parents you little bum!"
He obviously thought that just because I was young that I didn't know what I was doing and that he could pressure me into the sale by bullying and intimidating me. I just laughed at him and said "Okay bud. I don't think so, let me talk to your manager." That just pissed him off more and he said "This isn't through. You're going to buy that jeep!" And hangs up.
The more I thought about it that overnight the more mad it made me, so I drove up to the dealership the next morning and spoke with his manager. It was a big dealership so they recorded all their customer calls. Manager listened to it and said the guy was a shitty salesman and hadn't made a sale in a while and was hurting for commission. Manager said the salesman would be written up, and all write ups are reviewed by the owners to see what kind of discipline they feel is appropriate, and that he was confident he would at the least be put on probation.
Anyway, a girl I knew from HS was a receptionist at the dealership and I found out later from her that the same salesman blew up on another customer about a month later and got fired on the spot because he was on probation from the incident with me.
Karma is a bitch, a-hole

I'm confused. I thought you said they didn't sell you the car, they leased it to you?
Correction: leased.
They signed papers showing they were giving me a new car without damage and a disclosure statement saying they had disclosed everything to me about the car. False. And false. And they got caught.
I also learned this happens more than people think.

paid no sales tax. We had extended warranty and gap on both vehicles. Got a pro rated amount back of just over $3,000.00. Was a great deal for us.
You just got back a potion of what they screwed you with when you purchased the other two. Gap ins and extended warranty are both crappy decisions...

If you ask questions about how they calculate their figures you quickly learn they have no idea what they are talking about.
They know exactly what they are talking about. That is how they make their living, by lying and stealing.
They won't give you a straight answer because they will have to admit they cheated you.
I have had to go back to a dealer with a friend who bought a car on her own then realized later they never gave her credit for her trade-in.
The salesman double-talked a long time before blaming his manager. It was always someone else's fault although he was the only one my friend negotiated with.

And you were in no way harmed, the car performed to your expectations, you were going to be 'cleared' of the wreck portion and you still sued them.
My guess is she would not have been cleared... they would have tried to put that on her.
Further... she paid X price for a vehicle based on certain things. A wrecked and repainted vehicle is always worth less. Therefore her "injury" was overpaying based on a fraud. Had the wreck been disclosed to her, she might have paid less, or found another vehicle.

Recently purchased a vehicle from Toyota of New Orleans, and I have to say it wasn't that bad.
I've never been screwed on a purchase. However, there have been many times over the years where a dealership service dept has tried to run us over the coals with a bunch of bogus stuff.

I've seen 96 month terms. It's getting to be as bad a financing a boat.

I bought a used Monte Carlo from Daigle Pontiac in Gonzales in the mid 80's. I was young and had no knowledge of how sleazy car dealerships are. I knew nothing about credit or Beacon scores.
I went in the finance office and was asked about any prior loans I had had. I told him I had paid off my student loans but had no other loans. I had an apt, water bill, electric, etc. which I paid on time.
He ran some numbers, gave me a note and asked me to sign below. I did not know that he had hit me up for 32.5 %. I later found out that it was about the highest legal rate allowed.
He fricked me because I was young and dumb.

My first car purchase I got screwed. Was just glad to get in to a new car. Bought an 06 Kia Spectra 5. Paid 22k for a 12k car. financing was 6 years @ 9%. My ex-wife was the main one on the loan. I was just out of college and had 0 credit.
I totaled it 9 months later and was actually relieved.
I have learned since then. It also helps I am the I.T. administrator for an auto group of 17 new car dealerships and my brother is the #1 salesman company wide getting out right at 30 cars a month.
My last car deal.
I bought a 3 year old 2013 Camaro, with under 50k on it, for my wife in October 2016.
It was 16k financed with sales tax included. 6 years @ 1.9%. Payments are $249 a month. My truck was 5 months from payoff, so I got 3 months deferred payments and then the dealership made the first two payments.
ETA: The dealership that screwed me is part of the auto group I now work for.

Was trying to buy a used Camry at a Toyota dealership. Thanks to reading an article outlining the ins and outs of car salesman, I picked up on his tactics quickly. I left, walked next door to the new car side, and bought a new one for 2 Gs more. I assume the majority of people are too ashamed to call BS on them.
