Our vet is an old timer, who's basically charging as if we were in the late 80's. He doesn't even mark up the medicine he gives(dog has a bladder problem, from being spaded too young)

I honestly believe he charges enough to pay for the rent, his help, and utilities. No way can he charge the prices he does and him still get a pay check.

They’re not scamming you. Vet degrees are expensive, and I bet lease is expensive, too.

My vet works out of a building on her farm, she has all the testing equipment on site and does everything herself. She is so much cheaper than these city vets that ship off their diagnostics.

6 months worth of ivermectin for a dog costs around 50 bucks. 6 years worth of cattle ivermectin for a dog costs 25 bucks

So the only real price difference is two doctors disagreeing about course of treatment and what’s need?

How is that any different from me or you have two differing opinions from our own doctor?

Pet health insurance is booming and so are veterinarian prices. I'm sure these are just coincidences though.

I called 12 vets in the city and all had the blood work being mandatory because that is where they make a lot of money.

Well then maybe it's pretty necessary.

And you know this how? Or you're just full of shite?

Having a blood test done can uncover any potential problems with anesthesia.
This.

Many believe it is worth it. It doesn't mean it's a rip off.
And very much this.

Not surprising. Helps indemnify them to a degree.

I have a female GSD that will be getting her hips and elbows certified soon. Requires anesthetic. We'll be getting the blood work.

So you found one vet who disagreed with 12 other vets and you want to go with them?

Fathers best friend is a vet back home and I usually call him for advice. In fact he requires it too but says its overkill.

There's a vet clinic in Monroe that looks exactly like a Dr. office except for concrete floors.

Yes price was slightly different in the city for surgery itself but majority of additional cost came from $300 in unnecessary blood test that the country vet said are not needed

This is the reason some vets suck. Most people do not want to spend that much money on pets and most pets don't need all of the things that vets try and ring up to support their practice.

Are you familiar with how real estate is valued?
my dads neighbor said he could take care of that for him.... he ties it up on a board and just cuts it.....no sutures and he says it heals up nicely...most of the time, females too.

And im serious. But this is WAY out in the country for farm dogs and cats.
