Do it yourself and save all the costs. It's really not that hard.

Grow a pair, go to YouTube and look at the instructables. Easy to do if you have an exacto and aren't squeamish about blood.

If you won’t spend money on your pets for necessary treatments and preventative measures then frick you and don’t get a pet.

It’s really that simple.

In Knoxville, Young Williams animal shelter will spay and neuter pets for a whole lot less than $100 each, and they will neuter feral cats for free (and clip their ears so no one else will try to trap them to solve kitten overpopulation problems.)

Because they are a good place.

And I included preventative measures. That’s what the blood testing is for. Same with vaccines, heart worm and flea preventative.

He spays female cats and dogs without using sutures? That’s pretty impressive.

I have almost two dozen vets who are clients of mine, including a very close personal friend.

I would not consider a single one of them to be wealthy. Most of them take home, after paying their expenses and their staff, somewhere between 70K and 100K. This is before paying off any student loans (for those that still have them). The vet that is a friend graduated vet school with over 200K in student loan debt (just from vet school).

One of my vet clients actively tells people to not consider being a vet as a career choice, because the pay is so poor considering the work. He's 73 years old by the way so it's not like he's trying to eliminate competition.

When we lived in Katy, our vet was a "country doctor" in Fulshear, whom we loved. Dr. Marne, at Fulshear Animal Hospital. I would highly recommend her.

of course...but there are a ton of vets that use that phrase on things that are not in fact necessary. OP is right about that.

This is part of it too. Places like the SPCA and shelters do a ton of neutering, so they have some cost savings just on volume.

A regular ole vet is going to treat this much more seriously.

So do human doctors. This isn’t exclusive to just vets.

I have a hard time believing he cuts a hole in an animal and doesn't stitch it up.

Yeah that’s bc it’s an adoption and welfare facility that got funding from the city and county. So yeah, their prices are going to be cheaper due to higher volume and no business/student loans to pay off.

I switched vets once after he tried telling me that I can't trust the heart worm medicine if I got it online.

It was about half the price and he wanted my money. Went to another vet in the same practice and he told it would be fine.

I agree that’s what it is but I should have the ability to sign something stating I do not want the blood work performed. Especially since I have a vet I trust telling me it’s not necessary at all but is often required so the vet can make some more money on the procedure.

You shouldn’t trust the online ones.Pet medication like that sold online isn’t regulated. But whatever.

Well the Trifexis I've gotten from 1-800-Pet-Meds has been great for 7 years for my pup and just appears on my doorstep very 6 months.
