People who are 70 don’t make this country run. Why should we have made people who are at low risk not be able to go to work? Just tell people who are high risk to stay home. End of economic meltdown where we have to spend trillions while having record unemployment.

New Orleans. The nightlife and music scene for which the city is so famous is a complete shell of its former self.

We allowed basic mitigation techniques like mask-wearing to become political and somehow controversial (driven for political points).

Because, oddly enough, up until 2020 the evidence for the effectiveness/efficacy of masks (actually working) was lacking, and most of the "evidence" today is mechanical in nature rather than actual studies showing a reduction in infections.

Do you think this is policy or mitigation driven?

I liked the part where he implied only “panicked bitches” thought this thing would kill hundreds of thousands of people

I got torched in that thread in the beginning.

And there’s lots of hypocrisy now. Tons of people were for the shutdown early. They were lied to and told it would just last a couple weeks but they were still all for it.

He's a pompous prick in every one of his posts. And I enjoying pointing it out to him constantly.

Like I said, people like him should be mocked. Incessantly.

They are currently treating school-aged kids as though they are worthless or merely political objects.

Are they? I’m not saying you’re wrong I just don’t know the stats.

I honestly couldn’t tell you. I drove through 11 school zones this morning after getting off work heading to my second job.
My nieces and nephews go to a french school uptown, they’ve been back.
I’m sure they’re are still plenty schools still out, but I don’t think anyone is treating kids as if they’re worthless. I think you missed my point.
It’s like people are saying frick anyone over 65, they lived a good life, open everything back up and if they die they die. Does that make sense?
I’m all about opening shite back up and getting back to normal. I’ve had it twice, 300+ co-workers have had it, no one died, some were hospitalized, but all good. I’ve treated people young and old who died, I’ve treated people with minor symptoms, so I’ve seen both ends. I’m not here to side with keeping things shut down, and I think we understand the virus better today. So maybe my opinion has changed...but back in March I thought it was bullshite.
I’m more at a frustrated state now. I’ve been vaccinated, and so has my grandparents and most of my family in the health field, so I’m just as eager as you for things to get back.

It hasn’t killed that many. People have died with it but not as the main cause. I use my grandfather as example. He had a heart procedure and didn’t recover back in 2012. Went into hospice and caught pneumonia and died. His cause of death was from complications due to cardiovascular disease. But today, he would go down as a pneumonia death. That’s the majority of covid deaths. Old people catching it when already sick or dealing with another main cause.

Saturday Night there wasn’t a parking spot to be had in the French Quarter. It was slammed with people.
It shuts down at 11, but you’re right in a sense that it’s not what it use to be. On a positive note, we haven’t responded to as many drunks, fights, shootings than when it’s opened all night.

The only reason people have strong differing opinions on Covid is because it was politicized from day one.

No you haven't. You had it once and had something else like the flu or some other virus the 2nd time.

To me the government lost any credibility when they were/are shutting down small businesses while allowing the corporate giants to basically do what they want. The fact that you never saw major restrictions on the HD, WalMarts...of the world, but we need the government help us bail out small businesses showed me that they used a virus to gain more power over the people they are supposed to represent.

The original estimates were anywhere from 250k (if we did everything "right") to 2.5million by June. Funny how the temporal context of those projections are left out when the true believers come to claim victory at the current unfortunate death count.
