Has science proved that it cannot be determined whether we are in the physical world

That we perceive, or instead in some kind of simulation or computer network or something?
My father in law says it has. He says it has been proven that it’s not possible to know, but that it’s nearly 100% probable this is not a simulation. If he is wrong, I want to rub his nose in it.
He also says that if he had been born before schcroedinger and Heisenberg he would have come up with that they did.
