Has LinkedIn become useless?

It used to be a great tool for prospective employees and employers to use, but it seems to be becoming more and more of a cesspool of stupidity like Facebook.

I haven't checked my LinkedIn account in years.
I get e-mails here and there about obvious recruiters contacting me, but I don't ever check it.

The only reason I use it now is to stay in touch with people I worked with years ago, and that function is becoming questionable.

I think it’s watered down by having every joe blow off the street getting an account. I’d say recruiters/businesses are much less likely to sift through the garbage with every person that works retail marking themselves as sales reps.

I actually very recently got set up for an interview through linkedin.
I would say it isnt useless if you are actually using it to find jobs.
However, I do agree that a good pit of facebook bullshite has moved over to linkedin, but the overall usefulness of Linkedin is still there for me.

What are you using it for? If you're using it to establish and stay in touch with a business network I think it still has value. If you were using it for the content that was shared in the feed there is definitely more crap. I didn't think that people actually paid attention to that portion.

It seems like job finding websites only has a certain life span. Is Monster.com still used?
I have a thing when it comes to possible employers being able to see too much into your life. For example, if I come across a job I might be interested in and I apply for it, the person who is processing the hire might see someone I "follow" or associated with, that they know, but don't like. That could result in them judging me and could have an impact on me getting the job.. You just never know...

depends on your profession - as it always did...still good for networking in sales for me
