I had it and all it was good for was people I hadn't seen in years trying to "add" me on there. No thanks. Delete.

I only open it when I get an email notification that I've been sent a message. It's still pretty useful in my field, if only to establish connections with recruiters/head hunters.

A friend of mine had a head hunter cell her because of her LinkedIn profile. She ended up with a new job and got a $25,000 raise.

The only reason I use it now is to check out the hot pieces of arse I worked with years ago, and that function is becoming questionable.

Recruiters are spamming it like crazy.
And the news feed is clunky. I used to try to use it to read articles posted by colleagues, etc. But that's hard to do with the interface. And there is no reason to check it on a regular basis.

I use it to hire tech sector people. Occasionally saves me from having to pay some dickbag recruiter to take people to lunch.

Pretty vital in tech to use it if you're looking for a job, or interested in people contacting you if they're looking for your skills.
I get 2-3 emails a week about opportunities, but there aren't enough tech writers for jobs here in the Bay Area.

Started typing, "its turned to crap, just a bunch of blowhards posting inspirational quotes and business cliches now" .... Before submitting said post, I opened LinkedIn in a new tab just to see... First things I see:
"Good Employees quit when Management is bad, Bad employees quit when management is good"
"The end is never in sight, the next opportunity is always in view"

It’s just Recruiters being lazy and blasting out job opportunities to key words, HR people, and entrepreneurs posting/sharing cheesey motivational quotes (sometimes their own damn quote)
It’s awful

Haha these posts let me know which of you losers aren't running your own business. I started a Primerica business this year and life is great. LinkedIn is irreplaceable for me.

When I did EMR consulting I was more active with linkedin. I've switch fields since then and have not logged on in 3 years. When I want to google someone I'm afraid to look at their linkedin page because it will notify them that I was looking at their page.

It's still useful if you're working in the tech sector.
If you're just a 9-5 schlub turning out widgets, not so much.
