Next time I see her I would walk up yo her and say "Bom Dia!" To which she would likely respond "To Da Bem!"
She would probably get excited and say something else in Portuguese to which I would let her down by saying "Noa fallo Portuguese!"

Please note that has been over 30 years since I took Portuguese and pretty much failed the class so my use of the language is probably way off!

My current gf does not speak any English whatsoever.. she is Cambodian but currently lives in a different part of Asia.. there are only two things she knows in English - “OK” (apparently even in the jungles of Borneo they know OK).. and she knows ‘Daddy’ 
…. She is 28, and i am 46- but she still likes to call me Daddy, so i let her.. it’s real common , at least among Asian chicks .

You have to be comfortable with her speaking her language around you to family and friends. Even if they are talking about you.

Many times.. we have been together almost 6 months .. sometimes it is hard not being able to carry on even a basic conversation - other times it does not really matter, if you catch my drift.. either way, the Google Translate app helps immensely .

Yes. A Thai exchange student who was here to learn English. We had to use translate apps for most of our communication. She was getting her masters in mathematics or something like that.
