If it was a small city it would be something like Laredo, San Angelo, Corpus Christi, or Abilene.
For a small town it would be somewhere in the hill country or south texas. I have some family and a huge family ranch in south texas so I am sort of leaning towards that.

My concern would be that so many small towns are dead or dying. The only thing remaining are meth heads, unemployment, decay, and desperation.
However, there are a lot of towns in Texas that seem to be much better off than other areas of the country, especially those located only an hour or so from the major metropolitan areas.
Dating and single life would be another concern. Retirees and families fleeing the cities is one reason those towns are surviving, They seek out the benefits and lifestyle of a small town, but are still close enough for it to be convenient for social, entertainment, medical, or work needs or requirements.
Young single people leave small towns at the first opportunity. The only options left are fat, trashy, tatted up 25 year olds with 2-3 kids, and with at least one ex in jail or on probation.

Yeah… if I had grown up in one of these towns it would definitely be a no brainer

Describe small town/city
If you are talking a Lafayette/Mandeville size community then you are solid and probably better off
If you are talking about Mamou or Church Point then God Bless
This is what I was thinking. I live in Lafayette, and while I wish it was in a better state, I have a decent quality of life here. I could also move to some place like Missoula, MT (population of about 75k and a college town), and could move somewhere even smaller if it was nice enough (maybe a small town in the northeast), but I don't know if I would make the move to a sub 50k city if I was fresh out of college and single.
ETA: being married with a child, I could move to a place like Salida, CO (population around 5k). I work from home though, it would be tough to try to find work in a place that small.

Corpus seems pretty comparable to Lafayette other than demographics are a little bit different so that could be a decent choice for me.

Depends on how small?
I grew up in middle of nowhere, population my family, nearest town was 2k people. I couldn’t do that now.
Social life could be tough.
Shopping convenience could be tough.
Entertainment options non-existent.
If you ever have kids, schools are often terrible.
I want to relocate back to small-town USA, but I want to retail, good school options, and a lake. So probably 25-35k population right up my alley.
A lot of people are falling in love with these live work play communities popping up everywhere. Avalon in Alpharetta is an example. Walking lifestyle In a suburb of a big metro.

most people love small towns because they grew up in one and know the place and people well
you can make an easy transition to a new small town, if you grew up in some other small town, but someone from the city, needs to hate the city, and want out, to be happy living in a small town. thats because it is quite different and there are much less things to do in small towns so you need to be sick of the hustle and bustle of city life to be happy in a small town

My nephew took a management job in Florence, AL. Small college town on the Tennessee River. He loves it.

I did. I regret it a lot. 20s should be spent in high energy big places.

One problem with city girls is that I feel like most of them LIKE the city, so even if I find one there’s a good chance they wouldn’t wanna move to a small town ever.
Nah...girls want to enjoy city life before they're married with children. Once that happens, most want to move out of the city.
I moved from Atlanta to Tulsa when I was 24. Tulsa was tolerable due to friends I had but, yeah, at the time there was little nightlife and the dating pool was pretty shallow. Would not recommend, especially if your friends are in the city.

I waited until I was 30 to move to a small town. The small town I live in has many bars, restaurants, and a very active social scene, so I'm happy. I wouldn't want to live in some podunk rural town. That's just my opinion.

I have spent the last 2.5 years going out with friends every weekend and I feel like I’m just kind of over it. Maybe I just need a change of scenery in general though, not necessarily to a small town.

It seems to work out great on Lifetime and Hallmark channel movies

I moved back in with my parents in AP for a short while after law school before I started my first real law job. Does that count?
You're still banned from the Cottage Inn.

I think you have me confused with another poster. I’ve never been to cottage inn. I mostly hang out at Park Place, Gilla, Nic’s (RIP), Fat Catz, or Tiger Tavern when I’m in AP.

I actually live quite well in BR. I live in a fairly safe part of mid city, have a good sized friend group of folks in their late 20’s/early 30’s (most of whom I grew up with), and hang out with them regularly in the local music scene at bars like Chelsea’s Live and Brickyard South. I find that with BR, you get out of living there what you put in.

I moved to Lake Jackson Tx at 25 years old. It was horrible all around. Somehow the mosquitos are bigger and more plentiful than south La.
I moved back within a year
