When I was a tanker in the 1st Cavalry Division in Ft Hood back in the late 90s, 2 E-5s in the company ran a train on the 1SG's wife.

At 0630 PT formation after everyone found out, the 1SG said "Fall In" and then started going on about how he's the baddest MFer around and how he could overcome anything.

It was never mentioned again. They did end up later getting divorced.

My first day at my current job, boss said "I want someone who will try to steal my job". That person is now happily retired and I have the corner office.

A life lesson I learned from my father.

If you can't stand your boss.

Three things you can do:

1. Find a way to get him Promoted.
2. Find a way to get him Fired.
3. Find a new Job.

Yep. Been there done that.

Worked for a small, family-owned manufacturer. Salary plus commission comp plan. My last two years, I made more than the son of the founder. So he retaliated by doubling my sales goal and cutting my commission rate. I walked within 30 days.

Rule #1 of keeping good sales folks- don’t frick with their $$.

In our company, it is understood no one disagrees with #2 except the owner.

However, I do not bite my tongue if I'm right. I refuse.

It has led to some interesting exchanges, but he knows I will always shoot him straight.

I am not paid as well as the yes men, but I don't compromise my principles for cash.

If that's all true, then the company sucks and deserves what they get.

That happens so often in big companies it’s not even funny. Really.

You shouldn't outshine the popeyes supervisor you have. Those teenagers can be tough.

smart owners and bosses should always strive to surround themselves with people that are smarter than they are, or at least allow them to do so

if you intend to stay at the company, appeal to management above him for promotions

How many otherwise really good employees haven’t been promoted because they didn’t have a piece of paper?

Yeager was denied entry into the astronaut program because he didn’t have a degree. For context, the guy RAN the USAF test pilot school in the sixties.

Yes..... But when I/we did, rank and title didn’t matter. A thorough debrief of the arse whooping and then back to calling him “boss”.

you only have one real choice here, talk to the President and Sr VP in some private way and let them know the situation and see what they have to say about it. if they value you as you feel they do they will arrange a way to keep you somehow under a different supervisor or dept.

the only possible result is they promote you (maybe into his position) or nothing happens and you are no worse off since you already know you have to leave to go to a better job

Yea if you are doing good work and your immediate boss is the issue and you are worried for your future go talk to the head guy. Tell him you think you’ve done well and this guy seems to be a bottleneck for you there

There's no winning here...

There are several people who could tell this same exact story at my place. Half of them would be correct, that they could potentially be more competent than their superiors. The other half are naive dingleberries who don't know shite other than what is right in front of them. Them knowing their small piece of the pie very well gives them a false sense of grandiosity.
