I don’t get why more small gov conservatives won’t get on board with “defund the police”. I know the people who champion it are questionable, but blind squirrels and broken clocks.

The most common one is filming inside a public building, especially a post office. The cops always get called and issue a trespass to the people filming. It has been proven time and time again that filming in a public building is legal and a 1A issue but a ton of cops don't know that.
The worst part is that even after being shown the law and it is obvious the person is not a threat and just trying to get a reaction, the cops are incapable of backing down. It's like they are hardwired to be unable to walk away from someone challenging their authority.

I didn't say all cops were tyrants but I watch a few of those audit channels on youtube and the number of cops that don't know the law and will step all over your freedoms is way more widespread than you probably realize.
That's why I tell anyone that listens that their best recourse is to know the law, known their rights, and know the officer's rights. That is the only weapon you have against a-hole cops while you're on the side of the road, or anywhere, really.
Not having a clear understanding of your rights and the officer's rights only makes you more likely to he a victim of one of these type cops. Know the law, know what you're allowed and not allowed to do, and know what they are allowed and not allowed to do, and be able to clearly and respectfully articulate what you know. The more versed and confident you become in the matter the more you will be able to separate emotion from from the interaction.

Because that's not small government that's anarchy. The police just enforce the laws that state legislatures pass.

Not saying it is the right thing to do but there are people that make a good living getting cops to trample on their rights and then sue and get settlements. It actually seems easy
When the Youtube guy did BR, BR failed miserably. One of the constables, in an effort to show he was in charge and didn't care what the law was, pushed him down the steps, injuring him. They finally had a lieutenant show up that had just taken the course on these auditors, so his life was spared. I am unsure if it has settled, or how much they had to pay.

We have policies in place that can allow for someone to be terminated for one infraction as do many other companies
An illegitimate arrest is a very serious infraction

Both of those cops are pieces of shite and should lose their job

Most cops couldn't tell you more than a handful of laws in their jurisdiction, and that's probably being generous. How does someone enforce what they don't know?

I would agree in that the knowledge in case law and precedent is lacking where it should be. Especially when it comes to the 4th Amendment. However, most officers know more state statutes than given credit.

She used to be a Parole/Probation Officer until fairly recently. Explains her behavior imho.

Agree to disagree. They are trained to do procedures that generally align with enforcement of a number of statutes. Very few actually have an understanding of the statues that drive the procedures.

People want cops to be better trained but the training the cops get, which is generally pushed by special interest groups, is for damn pronouns and implicit bias crap and not the actual laws or advanced defensive tactics. It’s useless crap (generally speaking).

The guy was required to identify himself. Sucks but he could have handled it better if he understood the law.
He could have stated his name, showed the stick, and kept walking. If they stopped him he could ask why he was being detained.
