I left one penny once, so the guy knew he sucked.

To the OP:

My parents were born in 1931, and 1935. They've always tipped 20%.

It's been 20% for non-poors for about 30 years.

But the waiters don’t get that money. Hence the reason for a tip. Maybe you don’t understand the food industry.

Evidently you don't understand anything.

It has more to do with the decline of math skills. Dumbasses can’t figure 18% in their heads so they do 10% then double it.

Easier math, just base it off pretax if you are a penny pincher.

1) The American tipping system is complete bullshite
2) Bartenders are the worst (no really, you are the worst)
3) Even though it is bullshite, you should tip 20% unless you have a problem with the service
4) Don't tip on the tax (seems obvious)

I think that covers it.

It became the standard because people visiting Essence fest don't like to tip.

I double the bill, and then move the decimal point one digit to the left. Doubling the amount of the bill, then dividing by 10, gets the same result.

I don't eat out all that much. I usually start out at 20% and add or subtract. I don't tip on tax just the subtotal. I don't think that I'm a bad tipper. Just not a stupid tipper.

20% every time. They need it more than you. At least, that's how I feel.

Take the 1st number on the bill (or 2 if an expensive night out) X's 2, round up.

These days, service usually sucks. I just give 20%.
