I am curious as to what the airports will do. I assume they will be clsoed (especially Hobby) merely because people will be stranded in them upon landing.
Am I making sense? I've been in hurricanes before but never in a flooded area where we have to sit back and just wait for the waters to recede.

It's not just the rain but a steady wind pushing back at the drainage outlets into the gulf. The city won't be able to drain as quickly on top of the absurd rainfall rates being seen.

The city drains east
So all of the rain in the east makes it far worse than just the localized rainfall. The bayous back up, fill up and the city keeps draining towards the swollen bayous

Pasadena and Baytown flooding now is worse case scenario for the rest of the city

Can't imagine Baytown and Pasadena aren't flooding already and the gaps in rainfall will continually fill in based on the gulf flow and upper level divergange right over the Houston metro (really effective rainmaking scenario).
This happening overnight just makes it that much worse.

Baytown and Pasadena have shelter in place right now
I predict lots of rescue flights and boats on Sunday and Monday for the east side. Doubt much of that area evacuated beforehand.

Crap, I was hoping for a little bit of a break
It stopped raining for about 5 minutes. I went and talked across the water to my neighbors across the street. They aren't taking on water yet but are closer to it than we are. The rain has picked up again but not as strong as earlier.

In mont belvieu a couple miles east of baytown. Haven't seen any flooding yet but it's starting to come down out here.

That's supposedly in the city of South Houston (just across 45 from Hobby). The area around Hobby has to be in rough shape as well. It doesn't take much for that area to flash flood and they caught a lot tonight.

That is just rainfall in the med center area draining and the wind pushing against The Braes Bayou outlet. So much concrete there, very little dirt. We have seen that flood twice in the last three years from big storms
That means that the water draining from the west into Braes will continue to stack up and get far worse
