My grandmother is in Houston @ MDA for treatment, is everything okay there? Should I make plans to go get her?

That's the safest place she could possibly be in Houston. The Med Center is a second downtown. It's a forest of class a highrise buildings. It has its own power station and the hospitals have industrial backup generators, their own water supplies, and tons of food. None of the patients are in any danger. The most dangerous thing, by FAR will be driving around.

She is safer than you.

Exactly what I needed to hear. Thanks.

Curious if the fact that it's still moving at 10 miles per hour is a good thing - if it doesn't slow down, it has a better chance of going further inland?

Yeah I saw it as well. There was some dumb viral message going around that this is going to be much worse than anyone is saying and the local and federal government knows it but they want to limit the panic and chaos.

(hope I'm not forgetting anyone)

To the people coming into the middle of this thread, not all these guys are pro METs but these guys have given ME the most useful info. I know some of the jerks here will say some of these guys are amateurs but they still know more and have more resources than the rest of us.

I was just about to mention you, I think you got zero credit for Isaac too. Wasn't sure how much you contributed to this thread but you have definitely been helpful in the past. You know your stuff.

I would say change your SN so that it is aligned with PEEj, or duke v, the least helpful poster in these threads

People like that are the ones who destroy the warning process for weather events. It literally does create the "boy who cried wolf" situation.

You have to understand the context.

Yesterday, a viral message raced throughout Houstonian Facebook accounts that the city was involved in a conspiracy to cover up the true strength of the hurricane and that it was actually a class 5 headed for Houston and everyone is going to die. People were legit freaking out. My brother, who works in the med center, showed it to me. That's what the mayor is referring to here.

Well, I think she's probably right about finding somewhere else to be if you live in a flood zone.

Yep. I was hurricane obsessed as a kid, and now I just watch them warily and wait for trees to fall on my house.

I watch NHC closely this time of year and can find satellite imagery on my own, etc. But it's cool to have posters who can point out things happening in the scans that you'd never get from TV weather or the like.

Wind shear won't be an issue for a few days at best. The system will likely get elongated once it starts its exit. That convection in the NE has been there for nearly 36 hours.

Thanks for the explanation.

Yeah that may have been a bit too casual.

And that is definitely all I meant. There is a sever weather threat to Houston at the moment, at least make sure your citizens are diligent enough to voluntarily evacuate.

It is beyond stupid, how could the city be hiding the strength of the hurricane, when they aren't even the ones who assign a rating? I know for a fact the outstanding folks at NHC would never do such a thing.

People are so gullible.
