The simple truth is as stated earlier- ATL owns enough land in Dawson County to build a second passenger airport. They choose not to do so because HJIA is the largest AA jobs program in the city. The mayors (current and former) can’t get rich off the restaurant concessions at HJIA if there is a second airport north of Atlanta and all the white folks fly out of it instead.

I also know for a fact that the Ciry of Atlanta has been approached by private airport operators offering them 7-10x their current annual income from HJIA to run it for them. They reject it every time for the reasons stated above.

Yeah, but it's not like Haneda and NRT are close together like LGA, EWR and JFK.

And ATL still has one security line. Eat a bag of crushed light bulbs, ATL, and never change!

I think eventually there will be a second airport built up that way if the Atlanta metro continues to expand like it has. There are no signs of slowing down from a population growth perspective. But you are 100% correct on the airport grift by city leadership. Maynard Jackson set it up and it has continued to this day.

I think they should expand Barrow or Athens. Have some sort of shuttle flight into ATL. Harsh fact is Delta owns the airspace and so whatever they say happens and from what I have heard, they don't want to expand anything within the metro. We have friends that drive to Augusta or Greenville to fly into ATL. Traffic heading south is brutal. Even transport services are a PIA.

Before I left, Chattanooga was supposed to take the pressure off. Like the Baton Rouge loop that never materializes, ATL will continue to serve as a vehicle for the kleptocracy of local politicians forever.

Still with no northern east / west road solution.

They literally had the land and sold it off to residential developers to make sure it couldn’t happen.

Now would have to be over or below ground in many areas. Was such a colossal screw up.

Delta wanted to put their hub in Birmingham, but some of the local industries lobbied against it because they were afraid they would lose their workers. Land was a lot cheaper in Alabama and it was a slightly more central location than Atlanta.

Now those industries are mostly gone from the area. What could have been.

Biggest issues I have is massive size requires massive parking as Marta is sketch at night and useless if you don’t live on top of one of the few hubs. The need massive parking along 85/75 with direct lines.

Their labor supply likes to not show up at selective time and is often the reason for security delays.

If you have ever been there when trains go down, you will realize there are way more people than the corridors between gates can handle. People are gonna die if they ever have a major issue and people start fleeing that way .

At that time they were concerned about too much Development that would spring up with the second perimeter. And just look at the development in those areas now.

Reason NIMBY people shouldn’t drive 50 year projects. Now they can’t move around either.

This is common knowledge.

Denver being listed while Schipol is not was my biggest surprise.

I've flown thru each of those listed, except for Istanbul, and O'Hara is the worst by far.

Best thing about ATL is there's a Chic Fil A on every terminal.

Atlanta has needed a 2nd airport on north side for years to reduce vehicle traffic but you’d rather win the prize for busiest airport and sacrifice quality of life driving around the area.

I live pretty near Hartsfield-Jackson and I've never found the traffic bad, nor the overall quality of life. The only time I ever remember thinking "man, there are way too many low-flying planes here" was one time years ago when Mike Pence flew into Dobbins ARB and they had to reroute traffic or something.

Now, on the other hand, suppose you built another passenger airport way up 400 somewhere. There's no guarantee at all that it would integrate well into its surroundings. In fact, I think it's pretty likely that you'd get a lot more traffic on GA 400, and that area is already kind of struggling to keep up with ordinary residential growth.

Forsyth, etc. need to stay bedroom communities, and I say that as someone with no skin in the game. If I actually lived there I'd be even more vociferous about that.

Denver is an example of “if you build it, they will come.” Was considered a massive expensive boondoogle at time of construction but that is probably the best large airport in the country.

Denver was built for the Illuminati. The airport is just a front.

Wrong terrain, it'd have to be up 75 or 85.

And MARTA isn't really safe once school starts letting out around College Park.

MARTA is fine. People blow it's "issues" out of proportion.

Saying that, I wouldn't take the Green line(Bankhead) after dark. It's shady even during the day
