cause these "measures" never work. Buy them bus tickets to San Diego and drop them off at the Greyhound station.

The homeless are homeless because they refuse to stop using or drinking or they could live in transitional housing.
People act like we havent spent a shitload of money and resources fighting this problem, but you cannot help people who do not want help.

No, that's just the spin to make it seem like a good idea.

This has nothing to do with the homeless. This is about expanding the ghetto into downtown. Why the frick would they want to do that?

Your argument is people who hate that homeless exist and hate measures to lessen homelessness are racist. This infers you believe that homeless = minorities. That seems kind of racist, no?

Those are not the only two reasons that people are homeless. Sometimes they're just crazy. Other times, they're just profoundly stupid - which is kind of like being crazy.

Jarrett Cohen and his partner, Jeremy Watson, purchased the State National Life building, 224 Florida and an adjoining building at 244 Lafayette St. 4 years ago. Their plans for the property changed over the year, there was talk about keeping the State National Life building as office space, with a co-working group from Atlanta taking up a couple of floors.
quote:
Cohen said he has been approved for $19.5 million in multifamily housing revenue bonds, the Baton Rouge Mayor’s Office of Community Development has awarded him up to $2 million and he’s trying to line up $7 million to $10 million in historic tax credits.
Besides owning the property that appears to have been an investment that has not worked out for Jarrett how much of this development will Jarrett be actually funding, and how much revenue will he take in based on tax payer’s money.
Affordable housing is such grift to enrich the person pushing it while wanting tax payer handouts. In the south it’s seems to usually be pushed by a minority who does not live anywhere near the area they are bringing down property values by importing crime.

Whatever. I don’t low income housing near me. Any multi-housing for that fact. I pay taxes and have the right to not have blight and section 8 in my neighborhood.

Does the new mayor have any say in this?

They are the two most predominant.
Severe mental illness accounts for about a third of homeless, most are there by choice. Even most of the mentally ill are there because they refuse to take meds.
There are plenty of programs for homeless folks, the ones who refuse to take advantage of them are the ones on the street long term.
Low income housing with any restrictions will not save the homeless. Most are antisocial and just cant manage living around others.

Actually, you don't. Whether through eminent domain, or other action, government will do what it wants. That empty space near the front of your neighborhood will be apartments, senior living, or a gas station whether you think you have a "right" or not.
Section 8 was created to decrease reliance on public housing projects and push previous residents into "normal" communities on purpose. You know, if high school drop outs are living around tech school drop outs, they'll somehow just start "knowing" how to pay bills and hold down a job.

Coach Sid needs to get his shotgun and run all the “affordable housing developers” out of town

Affordable housing always leads to increased violent crime.

Sad what happened to downtown. It was a nice little rejuvenated area toward the end of Kip Holden’s term and that’s all just gone now. Creating and maintaining a safe downtown would do a lot of good things for Baton Rouge but I guess we can’t have that.
