It was good, would obviously be better in person

This was my take too. I enjoyed it but I felt like I was missing out on an experience.

Sure, there is always something with seeing a performance live and in person but I enjoyed the story more last night than when I saw it in person.

You do miss an incredible amount in person, even with great seats. With two actors facing each other, you will never see both of their faces, etc.

With that said, I wish they would also release just a static center camera version, even if it didn't have great production value. With the overly tight shots, you miss a ton of stage setting, choreography, etc. An easy example is the second number, Aaron Burr, Sir. The entire number of shot very close, and every once and a while, you see members of the company pop into your screen for half a second. But zoomed out, you see that they were building an attempt at a relatively bustling street scene.

Which is a lot of words to say that neither zoomed in nor zoomed out are better; both feature certain benefits while making sacrifices.

Aaron Burr has a lisp that's not on the soundtrack.

I spent some time thinking about this comment, and I think that's likely a facial expression issue. In the soundtrack, they are only thinking about singing. So when Burr is doing his clenched face smile, it's going to affect the delivery. Also, the soundtrack was released (obviously) very early. While this video recording is relatively old now, it was a full year after the soundtrack was released (and therefore more than a full year after it was recorded). It wouldn't surprise me if the actors' performances evolved over that first year.

The sequel could be MLK: The Most Dangerous Street in Every Town.

MLK Boulevard is actually pretty nice in Anchorage, AK.

I know it's not a popular opinion but I wouldn't necessarily agree with this. I think seeing it in person was different but I wouldn't call it better. So many facial expressions, reactions and alot of the dialogue is missed in person. Sure, there is always something with seeing a performance live and in person but I enjoyed the story more last night than when I saw it in person.

Plays are a lot like sports in that perspective. Seeing them live is an experience and they are generally much more engaging and emotional. I generally think the emotional experience is better live but the intellectual experience is better during a broadcast. Like sports, the taped version often reveals far more of the nuance of the game or musical.

We watched it. Wasn’t a fan. I can appreciate the difficulty of performing it with the choreography. I can also appreciate that it will introduce a lot of new fans to the genre who wouldn’t have been interested before.

But it was too much of one note. None of the songs really struck a chord with me. I’m glad I saw it but wouldn’t watch it again. It would come no where close to a top 10 of musicals for me.

And it was so over hyped it never really stood a chance.

Hamilton was essentially the father of the American central banking model and thus the federal reserve. So yes, I hate Alexander Hamilton.

I said this earlier and got downvoted. During the rap battle where they discussed this, Jefferson owned Hamilton’s arse.

The cast tainted the production with partisan hackery by being retards with pence in the audience. Sorry reality doesn’t jive with your smugness.

The first sentence is hot nonsense.

Second sentence is legit.

My wife has recently gotten obsessed with this.

I’ve decided it’s one of those Emperor’s New Clothes kinda things where everyone feels they have to like it.

That’s because you’re a Philistine. The lyrics are incredibly well written, the music is great, and Leslie Odom delivers a superlative performance. If you don’t like it, it says a lot about you.

Lmao. I read 5 languages including Latin and a smattering of Sanskrit. I don’t know any Philistine unfortunately. My home is decorated in a variety of modern art pieces ranging from abstract to surrealist. I have odd tastes perhaps.
