I've grown as tired of the fake spooky Halloween and all the goofy costumes, especially for adults, as I have the Trunk or Treat or whatever the churches like to call it.

Not even to mention the random stupid destruction and minor chaos that supposed adults use the shadow of Halloween to do.

Just stupid all around.

Halloween hasn’t changed anywhere I have lived. When I was a kid we dressed up and went trick or treating for candy on Halloween night every year rain or shine. My kids have always done the same. They also have more opportunities to wear costumes and trick or treat before Halloween which I don’t have a problem with. It seems your issue is with churches getting in on the game now.

Was at the park with our kids the other day and some church proselytizers ran up on every adult passing out their trunk-or-treat flyer’s and attempted to spread the Good Word.

While I do appreciate their intention, I find their method to be somewhat crass, and it really turns a lot of people off.

My mind was blown yesterday. In the past churches objected to Halloween on Sunday. Yesterday we had 2 churches near us that were trunk or treating on Sunday electively while Halloween was on Monday.

More partying, more candy, more smiling, and more kids having a good time. Why in the world would you complain about this?

You must be a blast to be around at parties, if you're even invited to them.

It has changed. The small town I live just outside of the big city in Va still has a great Halloween environment. It's an old railroad town with lots of old houses, perfect for Halloween. Lotsa folks from the surrounding area show up. And many of the houses will provide adult beverages for parents. However, this year the town published some safety rules:

Halloween Hosts are asked to follow these precautions to keep everyone safe and healthy...

Halloween Hosts must reside within the corporate limits of the Town of xxxxxxxx.

Make candy available for trick-or-treaters outside your home during the timeframe of 5-8pm in its entirety.

Only commercially produced, pre-packaged candy should be given to trick-or-treaters.

Now, this is new. And aside from school teachers I see absolutely zero reason for adults to dress up during the day of Halloween.

interesting take from the OP. Halloween in my neighborhood in Mandeville is a MUCH bigger deal than in the neighborhood I grew up in (in the 80s and 90s) in Houston. my kids get way more of a Halloween experience than I did.

Halloween night, parents take their kids to "safe zones" like churches or parking lots or down commercial streets where they can go collect candy while wearing a costume (I don't call that trick or treating).

So Get ON my lawn then?

There are certain carloads of teenager kids that mix in with the little ones that do the robbin’.

I give generous handfuls and they still want more.

Lots of things are being stolen from kids in this modern generations. The biggest thing being stolen is their ability to be kids.

When your kid already has a bucket full of candy a week before Halloween and has already done the dress up thing multiple times, you think they’re anywhere close to excited as we were for Halloween night?

Yes they are just as excited. They are kids. They get excited for everything

When they get back from trick or treating on Halloween, are they dumping out all their candy to take inventory and trade with their friends, treating it like gold

Mine did this for Trunk or Treat on Friday and will do it again tonight. Mine are 8 and 10 and have had Trunk or Treat style events and regular Trick or Treating every year of their life.

Exactly. My 13 year old 'too cool' boy woke up this morning, after weeks of saying he wasnt Trick or Treating, and was digging for something to wear tonight.

His outfit looks a lot like Richard Simmons. He says he is a jogger/exerciser. But the headband and sweatbands and short shorts look pretty bad.

Kids are loud. Kids holler. Kids laugh. Kids play.

People love to say that kids are different now and they never go outside. But kids then go outside and those same people that bitch about kids not being kids complain when kids go out and be kids.

It is really funny.

my kids go roam the neighborhood but i also dont live in shitville either.

the reason you see what you are talking about is becauase of crime in many areas

also the bussing of kids to the nicer neighborhoods.

My kids have had two trunk or treat events. We go in neighborhood tonight. It is a huge party. There is a booze station map of houses handing out alcohol to parent (Jell-O shots etc.) given out to parents. My kids are trick or treating in a group of 9 kids and 3 sets of parents. It is a huge party. It is definitely more fun then when I was a kid.

OP must have shitty neighbors.

None of what you typed is happening where I live in TN. I have 2 boys and they are experiencing exactly what I did in the 80s and 90s. Trick or treating in the dark on Halloween night with friends, watching scary movies leading up to it, wearing costumes they pick out, staying up late on a school night sorting and eating their loot, and parents that get drunk driving them around!

Where the hell do you live?

When I grew up in the 70's and 80's all the neighbors knew each other and everyone's kids, today neighbors barely look at each other and don't want to know you.
