re: Was Saban truly better than Bear?

Saban was probably the best recruiter head coach ever in the college game, so that probably made him a bit better all around than Bryant.

Some that would have signed with SEC teams will sign with other teams. The question is how many. It's not like the SEC is the only conference paying good money.

Dying? Ypu guys are funny. Having 24 fanbases buying tickets and filling up stadiums instead of 4 teams is not a dying sport.

How bout this - when your team is hosting a first round playoff game backup your words with an empty stadium. But, of course, your packed stadium will prove you guys are all wrong. Your fanbase will eat it up. I know if my team makes the playoffs I’ll be there.

But that's the crux of the biscuit, eh ? Your team is Georgia Tech. Right? So Tech is...maybe... on the cusp of being relevant again for the first time in 60 years or so, with the exception of a year in the 1990s.

The point is that as long as new teams, like Indiana, are getting better, the game will attract a lot of viewers. "NIL" and the transfer portal have made it so that any program that has enough wealthy boosters willing to kick in, will become a player, if only short term. Unregulated pay for play and transfer portal, though, is not good for the long term.

According to ncaa.com Georgia Tech (3) has more national titles than Auburn (2), to this day.

And Auburn didn't even surpass Ga Tech in SEC titles till 2004.

Bama didn’t become relevant in the sport until 1924

Auburn won 4 more games than Alabama did from 1869-1923

Alabama was #1 in the nation (Tn tied), and won 75 more games than Auburn from 1924 to 1947), a timeframe that Auburn and Alabama did not play

Auburns win percentage against Bama is hyper inflated because they never played Wallace Wade or Frank Thomas. They got to miss one of Bama statistically most dominant periods.

That is true.

From the 1908 to 1947 timeframe, when they didn't play each other, Alabama ranked #2 in the nation, behind Notre Dame, winning 266 games with a .766 win percentage, and 3 titles according to ncaa.com LINK

Auburn was #74 in the nation during that time, with 196 victories, .584 win pct, and 0 national titles according to ncaa.com (noted above)

Auburn was lucky not to play Alabama during that time.

eta Stassen for winning pct... LINK
OU belongs as much as A&M does

We’re getting closer to where one higher ed institution is gonna shut down athletics

I expect many will unless we get some sort of handle on the pay for play and transfer portal. They will go the Ivy League route since college is supposed to be about academics.

Because, it’s basketball. It takes the least amount of skill among major sports. Genetics and mediocre athleticism can gain you a college scholarship.

You guys were huge basketball fans when Will Wade's teams were contenders.

Well, because it’s basketball.

Better than baseball or women's sports

Most of these players probably don’t read or math at a high school senior level.

I don't know about that, though I do suppose a lot of the athletes probably have a lot of crip courses or aren't actually doing the work. Online classes would make this much easier than back in the day. Anyway, this is interesting to me....

0-2 vs Ed Orgeron

oh really? So 1-4 against a coach that LSU fired and a coach that many Alabama fans think should be fired.

I guess it could be a rival fan, considering that he consistently looks too ignorant to be a UGA grad. It's not just this thread.
UGA currently has its greatest head coach of all time…

I think 1-5 vs the actual greatest coach of all time, and just 1-2 vs DeBoer. Awesome
Milroe's stats this season was 4 yards rushing

That's it

There is no logical reason to allow unlimited free agency like the transfer portal, when professional leagues don't allow it because it will negatively impact the league long term.

College sports right now is just a damn mess, and I'm trending out.
ha. Reminds me of the Sophia Loren/ Jayne Mansfield photo

yeah, but...

That no call was egregious. You can't let an official decide the game, especially a semifinal playoff game.

edit: Not that a first down would have guaranteed an Ole Miss td, but you have to call that obvious PI

Cignetti is an insufferable prick,

ha. He does appear to be but apparently his players love the guy. If nothing else he is elite at compiling a very good team in this transfer portal college football world.
