Halloween has turned into a fragmented, watered down version of what is used to be. Instead of everyone trick or treating on Halloween night, parents take their kids to "safe zones" like churches or parking lots or down commercial streets where they can go collect candy while wearing a costume (I don't call that trick or treating). These events trypically aren't even on Halloween. Some towns schedule a night for trick or treating that's not even on Halloween night. Why!?

We are robbing our children of one of the most special times of being a child. There's nothing like trick or treating on Halloween night. Seeing mobs of kids all walking the dark streets at the same time, having nearly all houses in all neighborhoods with their lights on inviting trick or treaters, and being able to look forward to that night every year without having to ask "what night are we allowed to trick or treat this year?"

Halloween should not be a carefully planned, controlled event where old people force kids to engage in Halloween on the old people's terms. Halloween is Halloween and old people should deal with it and give the kids the Halloween they got when they were kids!

Sorry you live in a weird place. Our neighborhood has been doing trick or treating on 10/31 for the past ten years I’ve lived here.

It should be either Friday or Saturday Night every year.

Halloween on a weeknight blows.

I was so blessed to experience Halloween as a child in the late 80s and early 90s

I don't know a single person impacted in this way. If anything, kids have these events AND they are going out in their neighborhood tonight. Having 2-3 Halloweens is pretty bad arse.

Wtf are you blabbing about? Do you even have kids? We do Trunk or treat at school and will be trick or treating tonight. My kids will have a blast tonight in costume walking from house to house.

Yeah that's what happens at our house. Not sure why OP thinks going to trunk or treats or other organized events means you can't also trick or treat in your neighborhood on Halloween.

Good thing they don’t know any better since they never experienced the other side of things…unless you tell them.

Sounds like you're the one robbing your kids of this holiday with your misery.

OP, idk why you’re being downvoted so bad on here.

Maybe a lot of shitty parents on the OT, but you’re absolutely spot on.

Halloween, costumes, door to door at night with your friends, all that was a badass time of being a kid and I still have memories of that.

Kids are absolutely being robbed of that innocent fun with this trunk or treat bullshite and other helicopter parenting antics.

There's a couple of neighborhoods here that go all out, but not since 2019. Will be interesting to see if they go all out this year.
