PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. - The GBI is looking into an arrest and use of force incident by a Paulding County Sheriff's deputy.

Dash camera video of the incident is circulating on the internet. It shows the deputy throwing a man on the ground. Sheriff's officials say when that video surfaced, they called in the GBI to take a closer look at it.

Paulding County Sheriff's officials confirmed to FOX5 News, the video circulating on the internet is the dash camera video from Deputy Michael McMaster's car from March 4, 2022.

It was 6:00 in the morning, the deputy was responding to a call of a suspicious person breaking into cars at the Evans Mill subdivision.

"When deputies responded to that area they made contact with a person matching the description," said Paulding County Sheriff's Sgt. Ashley Henson.

The video shows Paulding County Sheriff's Deputy McMaster approaching the man, identified as 30-year-old Tyler Canaris, and telling him to take his backpack off and put his hands behind his back.

Canaris asks, "Excuse me, what am I doing wrong?"

Sheriff's officials say Canaris didn't comply.

In the video, you can hear the deputy saying, "You match the description of someone trying to break into people's cars." Canaris says he was just going to work. In the next moment, in the video, you can see the deputy slamming Canaris on the ground, and then you hear moaning.

"Once the video came out, we made the decision to get the GBI involved and let them look at it and get their unbiased third party opinion on what took place, and if there were any criminal actions that took place in that incident," said Sgt. Henson.

FOX 5 asked sheriff's officials if deputies are trained to use that technique to subdue someone.

"We're aware of the optics of this incident. At this point, because we've turned the case over to the GBI, and there is pending potential civil litigation in the case, we're going to opt not to elaborate on that portion of the case," said Sgt. Henson.

That fat pig needs to be fired and the innocent guy needs to be handsomely paid.

I hope that poor guy cleans up in the civil suite. That fat fricking deputy needs to be fired. That was ridiculous.

Can't be, that stuff only happens to black people. Reality is there are a lot of shitty cops and their frickups are rarely race related.

I posted in the other thread, but watching a second time and really feel that cop was on a power trip. The body slam seemed premature.

It’s sad that if BLM wasn’t a thing and the powers at be wanted to focus on all instances of police brutality we probably could see some real change. But instead certain groups are obsessed with being the bigger victim and end up alienating everyone else.

You can see in the comment section all over these posts, it’s all “he’d be dead if he was black” comments.

It was posted yesterday morning.

This happened a year ago and the Paulding Sheriff's Office has been hiding it. Now that the GBI is involved, all bets are off.

The cops actions were out of proportion, etc.

But still… what is up with people physically resisting cops. The policeman did state he needed to detain him due to a suspect matching his description in the area. Just cooperate and fight your fight later

The biggest farce of 2020 was the storyline that cops are freedom-embracing conservatives. They are a big union arm of the globalist statists.

Amazing. Shocking even!!
You give a fat nerd who was either bullied as a kid OR is a has been who can’t qualify for any other real job $20K and a badge and he acts like a dumbass????

What I can’t understand is why do you need a 3rd party to investigate that? Fire his arse

What if I told you the suspect didn't match the clothing description, and when confronted with this fact officer fatass suggested dude had already changed clothes. Innocent citizens should not be burdened with legal fees and an arrest record because officer fatass wanted to boost his arrest numbers.

Put your hands on the dash or ceiling, and do nothing until told. I'm sorta white, but a white dude from east Texas taught me this when I was a freshman in college.

Paulding is a bit out of Atlanta, but any PD in Atlanta metro would generally plant someone open carrying (which is not an offense which creates an excuse to stop) even if they were ordering a sammy at Chik Fil A. Man with a gun call: 911: "What's he doing?" Caller: " he appears to be looking at air filters, and I don't feel safe." 911: "We will send someone immediately."

Not shocked, but overall lesson is still the same, Do what the person with the badge, the gun and the taser tells you do, and sue later if anything was actually wrong.

Fun fact, during the time of the American Revolution, it was completely legal, and expected that your average British subject fight (to the death if necessary) illegal detention. This right was backed by legal precedent and by British courts.

It seems there has been somewhat of a shift in perception since then.
