I will bet every dollar that the CT court will award this man and his wife signed something when booking the trip that acknowledged the risk

Guess it's true that you don't want to be slowest person on a safari.

Let me guess…these folks had just returned from a trip to Yellowstone where they played with numerous bison calves and fed grizzly bears from a McDonald’s bag….

Im sure it will get downvoted but allow me to play devil's advocate. The tour guide company is probably based in Africa and I'm sure they would never be able to collect anything from them anyway. But does the actual safari company not have some sort of responsibility to ensure their customers don't die? And yes I realize it's a safari and inherently dangerous. But do they have any protocols about keeping distance from the wildlife and so forth? Did the lady that died violate any of these protocols? Thousands of people go on excursions like this every year and don't get eaten by a hippopotamus so somebody fricked up here. But I think it's silly to just chalk it up to "frick around and find out."

Should’ve listened to Marlin Perkins.

Not sure why they included that first part. Was it going to grab her by its legs?
Imagine going to Africa on a safari and then making a comment like "If we knew the dangers". Especially at 70 y/o...
This falls under the stupid games, stupid prizes category

After I hit send i realized that this was unclear on my part. I realize the travel agency is based in the US. But from the limited info in the article it seems like the actual safari was handled by a local company in Africa. Ultimately I don't think the US company will be held responsible. And the safari company, even if found at fault, will be impossible to collect from anyway even if they manage to have any sort of legal process.
I was just making the point that I feel like you should be able to go on a safari and watch a hippo at a distance and not get eaten, absent of maybe a completely freak accident of some sort. The main takeaway probably should be to not trust anything like this when you're outside of the US.

Did they sign a release with language like, "I understand that the Vendor cannot be held liable for any actions committed by wild, unpredictable and vicious animals."

Lawyer: Where were you when you wife was first attacked?
Husband: Running for my life
Lawyer: Did the tour company tell you to do this because your life was at risk?
Husband: No, they did not
Lawyer: So you were personally aware of the potential danger, but failed to notify your own wife beforehand?
Plaintiff attorney: Your Honor, may I have a minute with my stupid arse client?

…according to a lawsuit her grieving husband has now filed against African Portfolio, the Connecticut-based company that organized the trip.

Why would they? Choose to go see wild animals in natural habitat, you accept the risk of one of them deciding it doesn’t want you there.

It’s the fricking bush in Zambia, not a petting zoo in California
Get this billboard lawyer nonsense out of here. Applying overly-litigious US negligence standards to African safaris in countries that barely have electricity is moronic.
