looked at Turquoise, but the prices are crazy.

Gulf Shores Plantation. Those smaller studio suites are awesome value for small family(young kids). I've been 3 times. 4 day weekends for under $700.

I haven't seen any trashy comments in this thread until yours

And you can't make fun of Livingston parish types every chance you get then defend the redneck riviera cause you go there.

Come on man, I'm from the LP, I can make fun of it non-stop.

And I see I was mistaken. I confused the comments about the crowds with the usual remarks that we get in these threads proclaiming that there are trashy people at the beach.

Either way, I'm like you in that I'm going to enjoy myself no matter what the crowd make up is. And to me, being able to drive 3 to 4 hours and having built in free entertainment for the kids makes the beach trips perfect for us.

I have noticed that with the economy doing so well, the prices have gotten pretty steep and there are very few special deals being offered.

I also noticed that prices just keep going up. Was staying at Caribe in 07-08 for less than $2500 a week all in for a 3 br. Don't think that is happening now.

In the summer all the prices are crazy. The smaller the building, the more relaxing the beach is due to less crowds. The Turquoise and new Phoenix West condos are nice but you have the same beach space with four times the people so it isn't fun in the peak season. There are so many condos that the best bet is to just look at the rental sites and find the right room for your price range. Check Vrbo as well to save a little. Gulf Shores has mostly older condos but a few new ones have popped up lately.

i don't understand every bodies problem with crowds. We go every year and I prefer it crowded, kinda boring other wise.

I guess it could get to a point where it would be a problem but during normal summer weeks it doesn't get that crowded.

You can in FWB, Okaloosa Island. AND it's a lot less crowded and quiet with gorgeous sand and water.

I have young kids, it's much easier to sit in my chair and keep an eye on them when there's only a few people around me

GS and Fort Morgan have overpriced themselves, IMO.

Better houses exist in Destin and Pensacola and obviously the beaches are 100X better.

I prefer Martinique b/c there are about 1/4 the people on the beach at Martinique

And I prefer Beach Club because I am closer to the beach. Martinique is nice, but if you're hauling stuff back and forth with kids every single day, proximity trumps less people in my book. If it was just the wife and I and only going to the beach for a few hours a day, I might feel different,

Beach houses are nice, but a pool and hot tub are necessities for me. Also, if I am vacationing with multiple families, I ant multiple condos for the additional fridge and bathroom space. 4 families with one fridge and 2.5 bath sucks! There are some bigger houses that offer multiple kitchens and such so when you find one you like, book it for the next year when you leave this year.

If I'm paying I'm going to Seaside. I go to Sandestin once a year on my inlaw's dime and my company owns 4 condos in Perdido Key that I can use when I want.
