I've been cold on an airplane once in my life, on my trip to China where you're at 30,000-40,000 feet in the air for 15 hours in freezing temperatures. And i woudln't call that being cold, just being a bit cooler than a comfortable temp, and i was in shorts.
99% of the time it's hot on the plane, especially when you're sitting on the tarmac and the A/C isn't blowing.

Generally, I bring at least one pair of pants with me on just about every trip and thats what I normally wear on the plane. If I was going to some place like the Keys, maybe not so much but I also don't want to be cold in an airport lounge or on a plane either so it's normally more for comfort.
