What a tragic situation. I feel really bad for them both. If he loves her, though, he has to say no. She never would have chosen him if he were a paraplegic. If it happens after you're married, that is one thing, but if it happens before, he needs to send her away.

It's a terrible situation. And I agree people shouldn't judge them for whatever decision they make.
This only happened this earlier this month, so I think there is probably so much up in the air right now that the wedding is far from their minds.
After reading this. I'd have a tough time walking away, especially since it's so early on.

What a freak accident. I've heard of people diving into pools or other bodies of water from above, like from the deck or a boat, and hitting their head with severe consequences, but just playing in the surf and hitting your head on a sand bar? Must have been some really strong wave action or something.

Here is a question to the OT....what if this happened AFTER they got married? So she should just divorce him? Girl isn't a heartless monster if she walked away though. But she isn't a fool if, after much education on just how much her life would change now, she decided to stick by him.

I bet he dove headfirst into the water not realizing how shallow the sandbar was. I went to undergrad with a guy who was paralyzed from diving into shallow water in Cancun and breaking his neck when hitting a sandbar, and another guy in law school who was paralyzed from diving into the shallow end of a swimming pool. Both accidents happened while they were on spring break

Eventually self preservation will take over and she will either move on of accept her position. With any luck she will move on quietly and not get slammed by the court of public opinion. She's just too young to accept a role as a care taker. Not that it isn't a noble thing but she deserves to have the opportunity to achieve her goals, and he should grant her that opportunity.

I think you're correct. It's hard to imagine any man wanting her to maintain a romantic relationship in that situation.
If it were me, I'd be moving to Oregon immediately. No way I could ask people to wipe my arse with only a 1% chance of ever regaining the ability to do it myself. frick. That. shite. The idea of being a burden on someone is far worse than death.

really awful situation. really cant blame either for however they chose to handle their relationship going forward. personally id tell her that the wedding is off but thats obviously up to them
