Not the case in the Primorsky Krai territory in the Russian far East. Tigers kill brown bear in most of the recorded fatal encounters over the past half century. Ussuri brown bears are on par with inland grizzlies of the lower 48 U.S. in terms of weight and height.

Big Cats are ambush predators. The only shot they have is one strike, one kill for the neck. They also lack stamina in long drawn out fights which bears have.

Tigers stand no chance against the Kodiak and Polar bears. Both are close or over 2,000 pounds. The latter has fought walruses and had rare encounters with orcas.

Don't know anything about hippos other than they are big and are assholes. Pretty sure they're herbivores

they are but they routinely kick the shite out of single lions in the wild.

polar bears are kind of pussies when it comes to some other animals though. they run like little bitches from grizzleys and always give up their food.

supposedly they are the smartest bear and avoid conflict if possible because they understand the damage that could occur.

A grizzly bear is technically an inland brown bear with lighter fur, like in Yellowstone. Kodiaks and coastal brown bears (like in Katmai) are a hell of a lot bigger, up to 1,500 lbs. I am going to use a Kodiak and assume all these animals are pissed off and fighting one-on-one out in the open.

1. Kodiak
2. Saltwater Crocodile
3. Siberian Tiger
4. African Lion
5. Anaconda

The saltie is the biggest question mark because it’s not a land animal. Its domain is obviously the water. That said, they are huge, aggressive animals and if it locks its jaws on any of the other animals it’s over. I don’t think the Lion or Tiger can kill one before it takes a bite out of them. The Kodiak “probably” can.

Grizzly by a landslide.

A hippo would frick up a Kodiak. The hippo is too damn big, aggressive, and has a very large mouth with formidable teeth.

The Kodiak can flip it over and claw the stomach. It can kill it that way.

Any bear or big cat will have a bad day against a hippo. They weigh over 3,000 pounds and are armored like a rhino.

This is why I left the big herbivores off this list. Ultimately nothing stands a chance vs an African Elephant. They are massive and would f*ck up hippos and rhinos

I know I'm late to the thread and there's been tons of answers so far, but it really depends on the environment and what level of aggression we're talking about here.

African lions hunt in packs of females, and together they can take down large game like giraffes or even small elephants. A single lion - whether it be male or female - however gets its arse kicked by that same large game.

A salt water crocodile could tear any of the other contenders apart in the water and easily win the battle, but on land they're basically useless and lose to all the rest.

Anacondas move slowly until its time to strike and rely on an ambush, but I don't see them able to constrict around any of the others without it being 100% by surpsise like dropping out of the sky on top of the victim. Even then the other competitors could use their teeth and claws to rip it to shreds while it's trying to constrict.

A Siberian tiger vs. Grizzly would be the only matchup of merit, and it would be a good one. Tigers are obviously quicker and more agile than a grizzly, and both have claws and teeth that could tear the other apart. A grizzly has the edge in brute strength, but a tiger could easily win with the right quick strike. It's pretty much 50/50 depending on which one gets the initial jump on the other.

A jaguar could most likely take all of them without question though.

That’s false. Tiger’s only move would be repeated attacks to the grizzlies neck. I don’t mean like 2-3, I’m talking double digits. The Bear can break the tiger’s back with one solid swipe of his paw and make him a fluffy noodle.

You should read the articles about Parnell the lion and his adversaries in his owner's traveling circus from the late 1800's. This lion once fought a larger grizzly in a public exhibition before both animals gave up due to extreme exhaustion. These fights were advertised like boxing matches to the public.

This lion had killed black bears in previous fights and also killed a trainer or two. He was eventually killed in a battle with a Spanish bull after being injured from a fight with a grizzly in a fight just before it.

To sum it up, I'd say only Alaskan big browns and Russian coastal browns well over 1000lbs are safe from male tigers. Especially since Amur tigers are known to hold their own in disputes over kills with Ussuri browns.

I've seen all up close. I've watched 2 grown grizzlies fight over salmon. I have to say I lean that way, but a tiger is cunning.

Orcas might be the apex predator on the entire planet. If those things could walk, we'd all be dead.
