Shouldn’t we have a huge shortage of chicken if we have the shortage of eggs?

A 6 pack of pints of egg whites at Costco has gone from $11 to $12 over the course of this. They’re either fake or this is bs lol

Grew up with 7 chickens as pets and egg providers. Loved them.

Also, aren’t all eggs fertilized?

I don’t have a rooster so no they weren’t but she apparently still wouldn’t eat the brown ones because she thought they contained baby chickens

We have some green and turquoise ones too from some fancy chickens my wife had to have

There is no better time to buy eggs from local farmers. No bird flu flock eradications for them.

How many do you have?

15 hens & 2 roosters. 1 rooster was thought to be a hen. 1 of the hens is too old to lay. Have a very random assortment of girls.

Here’s my handsome cock: Black Copper Maran

Back in the day you cracked the egg into a separate bowl to make sure it wasn’t an embryo.

We use to check with a light at my grandparents house when we were kids. We also knew that you needed a Rooster to fertilize and egg...

I would probably murder you if I lived within a square mile of you, but that's a good looking cock

Hahaha! Well there wouldn’t be very many people living in my neck of the woods. Counting mine I can hear at least 5-6 roosters crowing every morning

Bigger companies aren’t using the same chickens for slaughter as they do laying. And likely keep them separate.

Chickens used for laying exclusively in a factory often develop diseases and issues due to the stress of forcing them to lay eggs every single day.

Crazy thing is pre COVID I slaughtered my flock because it was more expensive to feed them than buy eggs. Used to get a dozen here locally in south ms for $0.79
Those fat hens sure made a good stew though

bought them at $3/doz as well a couple weeks ago. They must be selling them at cost or even a loss.
