Let us not forget the Council on Aging and their shenanigans. Let us not forget all of the gun stealing violent criminals -- 8 out of 10 who live in north Baton Rouge.

My goal is to raise my family in a safe and secure setting, with choices for school and shopping and all that goes with it. I want my police force to he paid well and work on more than solving shitbird shootings.

As sfp said, Gravy does not know what the phrase "economic development" means. But if you want to develop NBR, start by cleaning it up. No one is going to invest in North BR when they have dozens of nearby suburbs and unincorporated areas far better suited. Gubment handouts does not develop...it just puts more burden on the people who foot your bill aka the St. George supporters.

This "Better Together" means "You put in all of the money and we will collect when/if it pays off."

Why would the parish attorney and EBR”s outside legal counsel allow an amendment to be voted on by the parish’s voters if it is clearly unconstitutional?

Because their goal is not the law or what's "right". Their goal is to delay and hamstring the effort enough so: a) they can continue to squeeze tax money out if it; and, b) that it is crippled from the start and the will be able to grow about how shitty it is.
The problem with your paranoid theory is the amendment to limit the number of municipalities within EBR was voted on and passed by voters YEARS BEFORE there was any idea of a city of St. George being created.

quote:

SECTION 1.05
Incorporated Municipalities

The incorporated municipalities of Zachary, Baker and Central shall be parts of the rural area as defined in section 1.08 and shall continue in existence as municipalities subject, except as specifically provided in this Plan of Government, to the general laws of the state relating to incorporated municipalities towns and villages , and may enlarge their boundaries as provided in such laws.
No additional city, town or village shall be incorporated in East Baton Rouge Parish. (As amended October 20, 2007)
LINK

It's been months since I read this provision of the Plan of Government and I was incorrect when I said it was adopted in the 1970's. It was adopted in 2007.

there is a belief that if you build it, they will come. no matter how many times this belief system fails, it's still touted

the other major inflection point is how you see problems. as you move further on the "institutional" wavelength, individuals become less important and vague, meta issues control things (obviously the reverse happens with an "individual" view). gary and other leftists are full bore with the "institutional" view, which is calculated b/c it removes all necessity to criticize individuals in populations of elevated pathological behavior. institutions almost act as ways to cleanse sins from sinners, if you want to look at it that way.

again,

there should be an IQ test and minimum score requirement in order to run for public office.

that alone would eliminate a good majority of problems in this country.

It would eliminate most offices as not enough people would run. Smart people don’t run for political office. They prefer the private sector where 1 they can make honest money and 2 the can actually be a productive member of society.

There are extremely uneducated politicians at every level, in every office and from every political party. Dumbass uneducated racist politicians from North Baton Rouge don’t have a monopoly on this.

Some advice for north Baton Rouge:
- Be less tolerant of corruption.
- Patronize local businesses
- Report crime to police
- Keep your kids in school

And try to clean and maintain your little part of the world as best you can. Pick up trash, litter, and keep the grass/weeds in check where you live. Set an example. Maybe your neighbor will follow.

they go to court, by the time it gets to a trial and to the appellate court, JBE will be out. they have a shot that when it passes now, JBE has some control over things for the early stages. giving that up when a win in the courts is unlikely would be stupid

I wonder if JBE regrets not letting this issue have a special election and making it be on the ballot the same election he’s on

I was sitting in the same room at the Louisiana Dept. Of Revenue when he and his kid were in there. I could clearly hear that his business the rouge collection was behind on taxes in a bad way. Is the business considered a separate entity than him as far as tax laws work? I know there was a guy running for sheriff in LP who was dismissed from the election because he was behind on his taxes.

I researched the Plan of Government and that provision limiting the number of municipalities within EBR Parish to four was adopted as an amendment to the Plan of Government by a parish wide vote in 1972 when there were only three incorporated areas within EBR. I bookmarked the section with that amendment on my computer but I’m on my iPad tonight and don’t feel like looking it up to link right now.

The amendment says four. I’ll try to remember to quote it and link it tomorrow.

In the meantime you’re welcome to google it yourself. That’s how I found it

Your memory is a little off as was mine.

Here's what was passed in October of 2007. October 20 to be exact.

quote:

The incorporated municipalities of Zachary, Baker and Central shall be parts of the rural area as defined in section 1.08 and shall continue in existence as municipalities subject, except as specifically provided in this Plan of Government, to the general laws of the state relating to incorporated municipalities towns and villages , and may enlarge their boundaries as provided in such laws. No additional city, town or village shall be incorporated in East Baton Rouge Parish. (As amended October 20, 2007)

We all voted on this amendment just 12 years ago. An amendment that appears to be clearly unconstitutional, but I'm not a lawyer. And if it isn't unconstitutional how could they let SG petition to become a city, and put it on the ballot?

And some wonder why folks have no faith in C-P government. It's the gang that couldn't shoot straight.

LINK to EBR plan of government

ETA: sorry I saw where you also found it this morning.

My point is that they know it's a meritless argument. If it had any merit, they would have filed it to enjoin the vote. The fact they did not, but apparently will file it of the measure passes, reflects it will be purely to delay and harass the new city.

Exactly. His hashtags are always #onlyblackowned or #shopclack. He is just mad that the cash cow is not going to have their money go to NBR and his district. And no one in St. G said people who aren't white can't live there.

Your point is irrelevant to my point about how a clearly unconstitutional amendment to the Plan of Government ever gets put on the ballot in the first place.

You would think some lawyer involved with the vetting process of an amendment to the PoG more than a decade ago would have spoken up and the provision would never have been voted on.

Exactly, and how many lawyers are we paying for? How many attorney's in the parish attorney's office?

And how many attorneys looked at SG incorporation, and said nothing? Attorneys working for the parish and for the state of La. all let this get on the ballot.

I recall when he was complaining that no businesses would invest in NBR because of, you got it, racism. Then low and behold, if a white-owned business tries to open there, he calls for a boycott.
