Grandmother Accidentally Shot and Killed By Teenage Grandson; Dog Also Hit

Plaquemine Police Chief Kenny Payne says the woman killed, who was in her mid-60s, was accidentally shot by her 19-year-old grandson while he was reportedly unloading a weapon. Payne also says a dog sitting next to the woman was hit and is being treated at an emergency veterinarian clinic.
The call went out around 4 p.m. on Thursday, November 2 near Marshall and Bubba Streets in Plaquemine. Emergency officials say the woman was dead when they arrived on scene.
The grandson will be interviewed by officials and the case will be presented to a grand jury to determine if charges will be filed, but they are not expected.
Few details are currently available. We will update this story when we know more.

In order for him to unload his gun and then accidently shoot his grandmother, he would have had a loaded gun pointed towards her right? What a dumbass.

At first it was ruled accidental. If it was ruled accidental, there would be no legal action taken right? If he was unloading his gun and it went off accidentally, is being charged with negligent homicide saying he should have known how to properly load the gun and that the way he was doing so, put the grandmother's life at risk?

I guess it could have ricocheted but it's doubtful. I know on my Springfield XD I have to pull the trigger to remove the slide. Only a moron wouldn't check if it was loaded and pull it in a safe direction.

I knew a guy who was having dinner with his girlfriend in an apartment in Boulder 25 years ago when suddenly there was a loud boom and she slumped. The next door neighbor was playing with a gun, it discharged and killed her where she sat . The guy I knew was seriously traumatized, he hung out with ferrets instead of humans after that . Seriously, the guy had ferrets everywhere.

your assuming he didnt mean to shoot her 
its real easy to say it was an accident "after the fact"
then lets look at the fact that she was sitting there on the sofa in the room with him and it was apparently fine with her that this 19 year old playing around with a loaded weapon like this is normal in every household.
we will find out he is most likely a drug dealer or gang banger or both

Presumably a shotgun if it hit the woman and the dog.

who knows, might have even shot the dog by accident then granny freaked out over the dog and then he shot her.

My stomach hurts after reading your post. I can’t even imagine how her family felt. Such carelessness can turn into a tragic event like that and it makes me sick. Hope the guy has found some peace by now and doesn’t have irrational fears of stay bullets.

This was a text I got from my aunt just now, who lives next door.....
