Grand Isle is described as “a longtime sport and commercial fishing hub two hours south of New Orleans.” The New York Times contributor Christopher Hall depicts the island as a place that is “hauntingly beautiful,” offering sandy beaches, migrating birds, twisted oaks in a maritime forest and a nearby pelican rookery—All while being at the epicenter of the world’s highest rates of relative sea level rise.

Friend,
Grand Isle is a magical place. It is easy to dismiss as a place lacking in class and character. Its current reputation is largely due to the alcohol fueled soirees, which sadly, now occur anywhere water meets sand, from the Florida beaches to fresh water river shores inland. My great, great, great grandfather and grandmother had a vacation home on the island, and were instrumental in establishing a ferry service from the city to the island, which I wish still existed, thus making the trip from town via a series of bridges an unnecessary task. Family lore includes a legend of Great, Great, Great Grandmother cooking a meal in their home for Don Jose Llulla, known to them as Sir Pepe. It was the summer of 1887, and Sir Llulla was quite elderly, but he still regaled with tales of bounty and adventure. He was a Teetotal, although he apparently owned bars in New Orleans, which caused a stir at the table. Thankfully, Great, Great, Great Grandfather did not challenge him to a duel. A year later, that home was destroyed by the great hurricane of 1888, just a few months after Llulla's death.
TulaneLSU's Top 10 Things to do in Grand Isle:
10. Get a Slush Puppie at Bridgeside or Pirates Cove Marina.
9. Walk the aisles of the greatest grocery store in Louisiana, Sureway.
8. Get a pizza and burgers at Jo-Bob's. Or if your wallet is a bit fatter, enjoy a delicious meal at Starfish after a long day of fishing.
7. Walk the cemetery at the back of the island's belly, where some of Lafitte's men are said to be buried
6. Fish the lagoons and pier at the State Park.
5. Hang out with Bob Breck at the Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo.
4. Crab and fish from the bridge next to Bridgeside
3. Follow a shrimper at night as he navigates through Barataria Pass. During the day, cross the pass by boat to explore Fort Livingston.
2. Have a family and friends crab and shrimp boil, caught yourself, hosted at a camp or the dock next to your sportfisher. The sunsets are stunning.
1. Fish the rocks off the beach in late Spring when the trout are running.
Yours,
TulaneLSU

I love Grand Isle and spent a lot of time there growing up but I don't know if I'd call it "hauntingly beautiful" with "Sandy beaches"

All of the places in the US and GI is #3
Billy Nungusser doing work as the Lt.Gov
You think that will increase the property value. Thinking about building a camp might want to go to closing before this news gets out!

I think the guy the other day here asking if folks here have been to Grand Isle was in fact the reporter undercover fishing for insider information.

In the world?
Look, I love Louisiana and all, but wow. My best guess is that the author just dropped a numerated pin on every city in the world, ran a random number generator, and made this list from the top 50 randomly generated numbers. That’s about the only evaluation technique that makes sense.
