High school is so easy that if you actually do struggle to graduate, that diploma isn't going to help you. You'll be at best doing manual labor that doesn't require a high school diploma anyway.

Meh. It is the end of the line for a certain stage of life. It is a celebration of moving into adulthood in my eyes more.

That said, I was high for my graduation and remember almost nothing of it. I kind of regret that now because that would have been a good memory fully sober.

For most, this is the last formal education they will receive and it is a right of passage to adulthood. You know this.

Getting up at 6:00 AM for 5 days straight and doing it for 13 years straight is an accomplishment.

On the whole you're not really wrong. I think it's more like a coming of age thing rather than a HS diploma being some difficult to achieve accomplishment. And there's nothing really wrong with being proud that they didn't drop out or get expelled and ended up getting (or sometimes not getting) a GED instead.

Just seems weird to try to rain on someone's parade though. Let the kids enjoy being done with school and let their families be happy.

This is how I felt when I graduated. I'm just saying it now, because it's our fault as adults.

So I guess you really hate birthday parties. That’s even easier. Just don’t die, right??

No, I'm saying graduation should have a birthday party atmosphere. Instead of the pomp and circumstance

Some kids actually accomplish things in High School.

My son graduates on Thursday. He already has college credit for AP English, AP Biology, AP World History, AP US History. He is awaiting test results for AP Chemistry, AP Microeconomics, AP Macroeconomics, AP Literature and AP Calculus. He will have at minimum 17 college credits and at most 37. He could’ve earned more didn’t want to do dual enrollment.

Going to a pre-school graduation for a friend’s 4.5 year old. I’m stoked, hired a limo for her, bouquet of flowers for her to walk with, vuvuzelas for our party. This is going to be awesome!!!

My oldest graduated high school with 21 college credit hours along with a 4.0.....if that doesn't take effort, isn't an accomplishment and isn't anything to be proud of then I have no idea what is.

I never got past 9th grade in high school. I did get my GED and 2 year trade degree though.

subconsciously it must bother me because sometimes I have dreams where I go back to finish high school.

It’s big to parents because it marks the end of the age where they live with you consistently. So far, I’ve cried at 2 out of 2 graduations because I know my kids will soon call somewhere else home.

Kids are doing great and I’m proud of them but the days when I get to see them and not talk on the phone are special.

When this hits it is very important to have a deep relationship with your spouse and enjoy spending time with them. Unscheduled date nights are nice.

I kinda agree especially because the bar has been lowered so much that everyone who shows up graduates. Even if you don’t show up, they will find a way to graduate you.

The bar is in hell at this point.

We all know this. It's a foregone conclusion they're gonna graduate. It would be completely unacceptable if they didn't. They just went to the school we forced them to go to and now they're done. Everyone does it. It doesn't take any effort, it's not an accomplishment, it's nothing to be proud of. It's just what you do at that age. Why do we pretend to be so proud of them when we all know this?

All this pomp and circumstance for just turning 18 and being done with primary school is so phony and overblown

its a celebration of their years of hard work. jesus.

I'm glad it's expected and normal for you and your family. Unfortunately, for a whole lot of people, people that I know, graduating high school was far from being a foregone conclusion.
