What black area that has a bunch of fast food places doesn’t have a grocery store? To act like black people don’t have access to fruits and vegetables sounds ridiculous.
Its stupid because realistically, its just walmart that kills every neighborhood when it comes to grocery stores.
here's an example of two black neighborhoods in new orleans
gentilly terrace area (off i10)
- has a walmart
- has mcdonalds, BK, rallys, taco bell, canes, etc
- winn dixie shut down because WM ate all its customers
another example:
NOLA East
- between read/bullard/chef area - Winn dixie and walmart, not including versai and their vietnamese grocery stores either (there's 3 FWIW).
- 2MCD, 1 BK, 2 Wendys, popeyes, papa johns, subway
- pretty even to me, the area covered is actually huge compared to above and walmart and winn dixie covers majority of it.
and here's a comparable area size/on vets near westend. more "white" if anything
- winn dixie, dorignacs, rouses
- also has: you guessed it. MCD, canes, taco bell, BK, popeyes, etc
wanna know what's the difference? WM is literally 6.5 miles away.

For many customers who live in predominantly white areas, the trip to Popeyes is a voyeuristic detour from Whole Foods and Au Bon Pain.

The article basically goes one to bash Popeye's for allegedly marketing more aggressively to poor black neighborhoods.
This is Church’s, not Popeyes. Popeyes is almost the opposite of what this guy is saying. Popeyes was created for the working class and is found in those areas almost exclusively. If you want to eat Popeyes in the hood, good luck finding one.

Popeyes, which is owned by Restaurant Brands International, has cooked “cajun” food inspired by black culture,
Other than the chicken itself, WTH is this guy talking about. The only Cajun food I can think of with African origins is gumbo, Popeyes doesn’t serve gumbo. Beans and rice, dirty rice, and fried shrimp have been staples of poor Cajuns for our entire existence. Po-boys were invented in New Orleans to feed dock workers and shite.
The author of this article thinks he’s woke, but is an ignorant fool, just like most people that think they’re woke

Let me go open a Salad Station in the Hood and see how long I stay in business.

What is African American inspired Cajun food?
Sounds like an oxymoron

The Blacks claim everything today. Even going as far to claiming they created the light bulb and other shite. It's quite funny.

Dumbass liberals.
I’m white, from the south and will drive to the hood to get some good fried chicken.
Please see Southern Classic Chicken.

White liberals may be the most racist people out there. They think black people and other minorities are too dumb to do anything or make any decisions for themselves.

This article is silly. I live in the third wealthiest zip code in my state and there's a Popeyes within walking distance of my house.
Then that is cultural appropriation.

I just looked up “food deserts in Houston”. One location they gave that I’m familiar with is Sunnyside.
Looking at Google Maps, there are several grocery stores in that area, and no matter where in that area you live, you’re only a maximum of 2 or 3 miles away from a grocery store.
There is:
Fiesta Super Market
Aldi
HEB
Watkins Super Market
Cullen Grocery Store
Sheffield’s Grocery
Pyburn’s Farm Fresh Foods
And I checked make sure each of those stores have fresh produce and meat. They all do.
And that area is considered a “food desert”. It’s complete nonsense. There are 7 grocery stores to choose from in the area, so no matter where in Sunnyside you live there is a grocery store near you.

You do realize the word gumbo derives from Bantu for okra?

Okay, now I know why the term “food desert” is so ridiculous... here is the definition:
A food desert is considered anywhere people live that’s more than a mile away from a grocery store???
I live in the Houston suburbs, and there are two grocery stores each within an 6 minute drive from my house, but both are more than a mile away.
What a ridiculous definition.
quote:
The U.S. Department of Agriculture considers much of south Houston – between downtown and Beltway 8 – a food desert, where a high number of residents live more than a mile from the nearest supermarket.

Yeah, they claim they invented everything in modern society, but they can't overcome whitey's craftiness.
