The Capital Heights whiners have already had 5 more stop signs put up.
we also passed a property tax to fund private police patrols, which start feb 1. drive the speed limit and stop at the signs and everything will be hunky-dory. we're considering random public lynchings of stop-sign-runners until the rest of the fuctards figure it out.

I don't k ow if you are being sarcastic or not, but I am in the crowd who does not think it will work. There are several problems:
As noted, the bus systems that daily traverse government are a big problem. But there are three, not two: CATS, TigerTrails (LSU), and the BRCC bus system. There are no cutins or plan for any of these.
There are also several schools whose pickup and drop off lines often spill out into the street.
While the current left lane is often blocked by those trying to turn, the right lane is just as often blocked by a bus or a school line. The rest of the time, BOTH lanes are traffic lanes. The proposal does not fix this.
What will the street look like when there is only one dedicated traffic lane that is blocked by a bus and an ambulance needs to pass. What happens when one of the ever present jalopies stalls and there is only one lane?
As others HA e said, I hope this works but I fear I know better

Illegally, as I wasn't allowed to vote on it despite owning property in CH.

Congratulations to the low bidder awarded this project, the weather delay champion of Louisiana road building that could care less about inconvenience to anybody but themselves....

This promises to be an ordeal in excuses and delays.

Does anyone realize that toll roads still cost state money? A state that has no money cant afford to build a toll road. They are not 100% private investments.
True but the financing would start with a Municipal Bond Issue and the tolls would be in place to pay the bond interest/principal over a 30 year bond life typically. This is done all of the time. The funds could be raised fairly quickly depending on the guaranteed rate of return on the bonds.

Thanks for the money. we'll use it to make CH a better place to live and your CH property more valuable.

A COMPLETE CLUSTER frick! Thats what it will look like.
I work off Jefferson and almost daily I see people using the turn lane as a drive lane when traffic is a little heavy. My boss was involved in a head on collision while he was sitting still with his blinker on making a left turn by someone who decided to drive down the center lane.

Pushed back? Damn, I thought they had wizened up and just given up on this fricktarded idea.
Baton Rouge has a frickton of east/west traffic and Government is one of the main arteries for surface traffic in those directions. What they should have done was widen it to create a turning lane and run it all the way to Airline.
While they're at it they should make an overpass at Airline/Old Hammond.
This is simple shite, how someone can not look at the traffic map or just figure it out by driving through it every day is beyond me.

Apparently you have to be an engineer to have any creditabilty. The governor, the mayor, and the DOTD should take a step back. People will be cursing their names in Baton Rouge 5 years if they go through with this plan and the interstate plan. Meanwhile, we will all suffer. Hey, it’s progress though.
The stress level of BR will be up starting next year. Just in time for the Governor to say he’s making progress on the roads. This is purely political and not practical.
The government street corridor is going to have an increase in crime and accidents all in the name of politics.

The 4 lane bridge should take about 4 years as the one in W. Feliciana. That bridge cost $409 million. Let’s say it cost $500 million to do the same thing south in Iberville. Make it a toll bridge to subsidize the cost. Sell bonds to raise the funds.
Or we can do what the governor and the dotd want which is screw up traffic even more for the next decade. I think my solution solves the problem quicker and with less headaches for general public. The Washington street exit could be fixed in 6 months or less. The bridge south of BR would affect little to no one while it’s being constructed.
Yeah well we know you aren’t Asian because you have no clue how math works.
Or the real world for that matter.

It is going to divert traffic to Florida Blvd and North Blvd which they should make plans to cover the increase in traffic.
You think they have foresight?

I’m not going to explain it but you’ll see.

Government Street is a major east-west thoroughfare in Baton Rouge. Taking a 4 lane major transportation route and reducing it to one lane in each direction with a center turn lane with bike and pedestrian lanes each direction is about the dumbest idea I have seen.
Traffic will just divert up to Florida blvd. Which will quickly fall in ever more disrepair.
We need another bridge too, if they want to add on to the existing bridge, plan that after another is built.
Ready, set, go. Stop studying the hell we live in.

Ugh sure you aren't. I suspect there's a damn good reason for that...

Worst case scenario, they simply re-stripe the road back to four lanes. Not very difficult to do. Government St heading downtown is in terrible condition anyway and needs to be re-done.
Best case scenario, its a cool little boulevard with a lot of new commercial areas. White Star Market, Electric Depot at old Entergy site being developed, and a potential Beer Garden would all be solid additions to the area.
