The $6 annual fee is just to keep the revenue stream for the state.

And they will know if you paid your $6 when they scan your sticker.

South Carolina did away with inspection stickers 35+ years ago.

LA isn't proposing getting rid of inspection stickers though. He's just pushing for a new type of sticker.

Don’t forget the yuge fluorescent stickers on the back glass of cars without insurance. They ain’t got insurance so we will just advertise they don’t and can still drive.

That’s exactly what it is. LSP is the reason we still have inspection stickers.

Last year it was the Sheriff's Association that stopped it. Last proposal included front license plates and LSP supported it. Sheriff's Association moaned angrily groaned because they will lose out heavily if they can't hand out fines for not having it.

Well, duh. Thats such a stupid antiquated thing. Turn on your signal lights…$20 please. Most other states don’t even do it anymore.

I’m betting his $6 QR code is so the money keeps going to the State Police so they won’t retry and kill the legislation.

Would this actually be an increase in revenue for the state ?
Doesn’t the state currently get half the $10 fee ?
Separate from the whole inconvenience aspect. Jeff’s cutting out the folks providing the inspection while raising the states take.
This will certainly pass !

That being said, considering the last couple of years when LSP has had road Troopers and high ranking brass arrested and convicted for sex crimes, kiddie porn, theft, beating people to death, conspiracy to cover up crimes, etc. One would think they wouldn't have much power. Yet people still defer to them like they are some mystical source of good.

The last time I was pulled over by LSP for no seat belt I noticed his inspection sticker was long expired. I pointed it out and he said, “we don’t have to have them on our vehicles.” I pointed out the hypocrisy and he replied, “I didn’t pull you over for an inspection sticker.”

That’s ridiculous.

SC hasn’t missed a beat doing away with inspection stickers, it was all just a money grab to begin with. IIRC they just raised the price of your vehicle registration to make up the difference.

That has always bothered me that they are still allowed to drive without insurance. You just have to suffer the embarrassment of everyone knowing…big fricking deal. And I guess they do that to warn others to try not to wreck with those people?

Makes no fricking sense that they are still allowed on the roads, and never has.

In NC you need to pass inspection before you can reregister your cars.

You then get a small registration sticker that goes on the corner of your license plate.

It’s either 30 or 60 days before your registration expires you can go get a new inspection.

It seems to work pretty well.

A little over half for the $10 sticker and a little under half for the $18 emission sticker.

quote:

An inspection sticker costs $10 for one year, $20 for 2 years or $18 if you're in a parish requiring an emission test.

For each $10 inspection sticker:
- $4.75 goes to the inspection station
- $4 goes to Louisiana State Police.
- $1.25 goes to the Office of Motor Vehicles.

For each $8 emission test:
- $6 goes to the local inspection station
- $2 goes to the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality
Without that revenue, LSP would see the biggest loss with an approximately $11 million-a-year deficit.

So the next LSP stops me, I'll give 'em $8.
