re: Got hit by an uninsured driver on Saturday.

Mid to late 90’s I got sideswiped by a guy in a brand spanking new Jeep Grand Cherokee that caused me to lose control and hit another lady who speakie no English. Hit and run. He took off through the intersection, and two super awesome older ladies who saw the whole thing took off behind him and got his license plate when he stopped on the side of the road to check for damage to his vehicle.
Guy goes to court, and his defense comprised of that he had degrees from LSU and Southern, but apparently NO insurance. I asked a police officer how that was even possible to have a brand new expensive vehicle like that with no insurance, and he said it was common place to just let it lapse. Dumbfounded, I was super glad I had purchased uninsured motorist. Never heard a peep from the foreign lady involved in the accident, other than insurance took care of her. My truck was a total loss. Paid for, and still running like a clock, but I was out a paid off vehicle, and during a really rough time in life.

They’ll never be able to pay for any of your damage. Uninsured motorists are the worst. And those frickers will be driving another beater without insurance tomorrow with no penalty

I doubt it. Assuming you are in Louisiana, this is a "No Pay No Play" State. This means that even if the person sued you, they cannot claim their first $15K in damages.
Respectable lawyers really won't fool with these cases, especially with dude making a left turn.

Not Virginia. My rates doubled when I moved to Louisiana. PI lawyers are able to lobby the frick out of their law school buddies in the legislature.

People who hit and run should get mandatory jail sentences of 60 days. This shite is sickening. No work release or anything.

There were lots of witnesses that showed the Trooper wrote the report wrong. He had written that I was traveling southbound when I was going northbound.
It got dropped but it took some work by the company I was working for.

uninsured coverage is a rouse....until you get hit by someone with no insurance. about 50% of LA drivers have no insurance or minimal limits.

So many people can't comprehend the thought of paying for something that they hope they never use. It's well worth the money spent the day you have to use it.

If they were in the wrong as you implied, why is your insurance not telling them to stick it?
At least in Louisiana we have the No Pay No Play law that keeps uninsured people from collecting if someone else is at fault.
