I have been tame for quite a few years now. Finally grew up about age 42. Got it all out my system without contracting STDS or unwanted chirrens. Can't complain.
Unwanted chirrens that you know of…

Stick to your guns, do you want a house or a future antique shop!

It will sit in our bedroom and take up space.

Tell her it ain't how you exercise...it's all about what you stick in that mouth.

Yeah. I went through this with a treadmill. Finally got the one with the bells and whistles. It's used to hang clothes on now.

I bought my wife an elliptical machine that she absolutely needed to have. I put it in the man cave near my weights and every day I'd use the weights and assorted weightlifting stuff I'd see that machine living a lonely life.
My guess is that after 5 years she's used it a grand total of about 1 hour and that was spread out over the first week of ownership.
More recently, her daughter decided she needed to get on it to lose some weight and get better cardio. However, over the years the rollers had become brittle and pretty much disintegrated so I told her I'd only buy new rollers and change them out if she promised to use it. She promised, I spent the $120 for new rollers and put them on.
Care to guess what happened after about 5 uses in a month??? Like mother, like daughter.

My wife recently cancelled her yoga membership at a studio in favor of an online studio at 25% of the price.

Buy her a good quality bike that has a thru axle and a trainer like Cycleops or Saris Fluid 2. That way if she gets bored she can pop the bike off the trainer and ride it.
ETA Buying the bike and the trainer will be cheaper than buying a Peloton.

Come up with a compromise and say you’ll buy her one if she goes to the gym at least 3 times a week for a month.
If she has an issue with that then she’s just proving that she doesn’t want it THAT bad. People saying to just spend the money are dumb. “HaPpY wIfE hApPy LiFe!” is such a cringe boomer mentality.

How have the husbands of the OT dealt with this dreaded question?
My wife bought the Bike+. She uses it almost every day. I use it almost every day. I also bought some 50lbs adjustable dumbbells to do strength training. Peloton has been worth every penny so far. You should stop trying to be a hard arse.

1. She is fat
2. She "wants" to do something about it
3. Eat less
4. Take walks
5. Get a GF

Make her cut the grass until she has earned enough money to buy the Peloton. Tell her she will appreciate it more by having to work for it

Bought my wife a $400 treadmill that she asked for. She walked it literally once. ONCE.
Reminded me of a lawsuit out of St. Tammany Parish.
quote:
On February 2, 1991, plaintiff's children purchased an Aero Cycle exercise bike for their mother to use in a weight loss program. ... When plaintiff received the bike, she rode it only for a moment. On August 16, 1991, plaintiff used the bike for the second time. She mounted the bike and pedaled for three or four rotations. The rear leg tubing and/or the connection between the rear leg tubing and the support strut failed and the bike collapsed under plaintiff. At the time of the accident, plaintiff weighed between 450 and 500 pounds. She fell off the bike backwards, struck her head on a nearby metal file cabinet and was knocked unconscious. When plaintiff regained consciousness, her mouth was bleeding and her neck, left shoulder, arm, leg, knee and ankle were injured.
The bike was not made to handle more than a 250 pounder (AKA a deuce and a half), but the manual had no warning. Court awarded $10,000, most of which was likely spent on Big Macs.
The six month gap between receiving the bike and its next use is the best part.
