Walking to and from warehouse district to quarter, i always take Peters st (by Harrah's). Skip the first few blocks in the quarter and turn between Conti/Jackson Sq. I don't like Poydras or Canal closer to Bourbon. Not sure if it is really "safer" but its the route i take and tend to feel better about it.

I hate it so much

What a colossal pain in the arse it is.

For tourists though I'm sure it can be great

But the WHD is all pretty good, not really anything to worry about.

This.

but why would you want to be in the FQ anyway? It fricking blows.

There are way better places to go.

Also this.

I’d just take an Über if you plan on hardcore partying. Stay out of the heat and don’t make yourself a target.

Yeah that's what I would do. Or at least go to the Casino and spend time there as a respite type of thing

Good vs Bad Areas in Nola

The big areas:

Lakeview good.
NOLA East bad.

Everywhere else it's a block by block deal. Some blocks bad, others good.

Even the good areas have crime problems these days over there.

7th Ward, 9th Ward, and Hollygrove definitely belong in the bad category.

Edit: Forgot Central City. Some parts have improved but the bad is really bad.

Shexter has it right, but one more thing to add, groups, stay in groups of three or more. Two is not a group.

Sage advice from the Earlster Skip the first block or two of Bourbon, take Royal or something then cut over.

Yea - depending on your actual hotel there may be a few similar pieces of street specific advice for best routes, but as long as you aren’t acting foolish you have pretty good odds of making it out alive regardless

Right. If you stay together in a group, do not go with anyone else anywhere alone, and don't buy drugs, you're likely alright

It doesn’t really matter s we here you go in that city… they somehow know you are from out of town and just don’t care….

Actually, they do care:

Out of towners don't come back to testify against the people who rob and assault them.
We had a friend in NOLA who had a shop on Royal. She was robbed at gun point one evening after leaving her shop, and then the robber stopped and asked her, "Don't you have that shop in the ....block of Royal?" She said yes. He said sorry, I only rob tourists and returned her money and ran off.

Thank the Motwanis for turning a once famous corridor into a warzone with T-shirt shops everywhere.

go Uptown, MidCity or to Frenchmen instead

this is what locals do, and it's much better than the tourist trap that is the FQ

I'm with him. Once u take that first step outside ur fair game!!! IF you are driving make sure u leave nothing u love or hold dear in ur vehicle. Better off just leaving it unlocked. I would have a Tim Kenndy style fanny pack or bag with knives and extra rounds. I would def CC. Got to look at NOLA as a Third world country warzone.

Yeah only 17 million people a year visit New Orleans. It’s a horrible place. LOL
