I did this for two years. LOVED IT!!!!!
Plus, if you didn’t wanna come in that day, you didn’t have to. Greatest part-time job ever created on planet Earth.

I'm a high school SRO now, but will be retiring in 2028. I can take a retirement gig as a part time elementary school SRO and add another $46K/year to my income for a few years. It's basically a glorified security guard at the elementary level.

I went on a Texas "hunt" with a vendor last year. There was an older feller working at the lodge. He told me he was a mechanical engineer and after retiring he got really bored. He worked part time for a ranch filling feeders, shooting does, and dropping people off at stands. He said he loved it.

I know several that drive for a fairly small group of people. They have suburbans or Yukons and a small customer list and do mostly airport runs. Lots of well to do families with kids who like the idea of not dealing with Uber for car seats, etc. Cheaper than the real car services. Lots of older folks who don't want taxis or Ubers or dealing with an app.

Mostly older guys who just like to drive and will only do a few a week.

I had a buddy that was a pretty successful insurance broker. He got to 60 and wanted to retire but needed a bridge to healthcare and still something to do.

He went to a regional outfit and told them if they paid him the same as an entry level salesperson, covered benes and expenses, he’d go around and drum up business part time for the newer guys but they take it from the intro. Worked like a champ for everyone involved.

I use a guy like that.

Dependable, clean vehicle, speaks English, and I avoid shitty Ubers.

Car services are underrated.

You might think differently about this when you get close to retirement.

I've been thinking about this myself, and I love the idea of moving cars for a rental car or maybe dealership.

Attorney. You can work in a part time capacity until you are 80 plus as long as you are in good health.

Hardware store.

Guidry's Hardware on Jefferson in Lafayette. I want to sit on those front stools, drinking coffee out of a paper cup, and show people where the Loge frying pans and weedeater string is.

Then just talk with everyone the rest of the time.

PS. Flying as a standby “non rev” passenger has its challenges

Maybe 10 years ago my wife and I were at the airport waiting to board our plane. A friend of her she hadn't seen for a long time walked up, recognized her and they started talking. She had her husband, 14 year old son, and 13 year old daugher with them. She worked for one of the airlines, American I think and they were all at the airport to fly to Germany standby.
She said they currently had tickets for her and her husband one one flight, daughter on a flight and son on a different flight, all leaving within 2 hours of one another and taking various paths to Frankfurt. I was a bit surprised that the kids that age were traveling along and it was no big deal, I guess they did that for all their vacations.

But yeah, I bet that is harder now with less flights and all of them packed to the gills with people.

Long way from retiring (I'm 31), but I plan on working as a church organist or music director. Sunday mornings & Wednesday night rehearsals, spend a few hours a month picking out music, and it's great for staying connected. It would be tough full-time, but it's a great job for spare cash while doing something fun.

If any of you baws are musical (or want to learn now that you're retired) there's a HUGE shortage of people who can even play hymns on the piano

I'm gonna get on with the contractors that bushhog the side of highways and interstates. AC cab, jamming all day, snacks all day and make decent money.

When I retire in 4-5 years, or maybe a little sooner, I think I’m going to look at trying to get on part time with Tractor Supply. I like the store and I think I would enjoy the work.

Every time I go I ask the people working there if they enjoy their jobs, they all say they like it very much.

When I get bored I’m planning to go work at a garden center or similar. Just for beer money
